VALERO KEEPS PRO MARK PERFECT

Austin, TX– WBC 135 lb. title- Edwin Valero KO2 Antonio Pitalua. Valero (25-0, 25 KOs) had never appeared on American television. The southpaw was supposed to finally see competition in his television debut against aged Antonio Pitalua (46-4, 40 KOs). The fight, if it can be called one, was over before your beer was warm. Valero knocked Pitalua down in the opening seconds of round two. The perfect (all wins, all knockouts) southpaw ended the night at 0:49 of the same.

 

DIAZ DRILLED BY REYES IN UPSETRolando Reyes KO5 Julio Diaz– Diaz (36-5, 26 KOs) was aggressive early against the effective counter punching Rolando Reyes (31-4-2-20 KOs). Reyes was the victim of left/right combinations from Diaz continuously until the fifth. In the fifth Reyes landed a right and then a left uppercut dropping Diaz, who got up quickly, but eventually was dropped again and stopped at 2:17 of #5.

 

2004 OLYMPIAN BEATS VETERAN HERNANDEZ

Vincente Escobedo W10 Carlos Hernandez– No feeling out period in this one. A short right landed for Vincente Escobedo (20-1, 12 KOs) scored a flash knockdown of Hernandez (43-8-, 24 KOs) late in the first round. The same punch knocked Hernandez down again in the middle of round two. An accidental elbow by Escobedo opened a cut on Hernandez in the fourth. The cut brought forth a sense of urgency in Hernandez, who knocked down Escobedo with the aid of a stepped on foot in the sixth. Escobedoís effective counterpunching turned the face of Hernandez into a bloody pulp. This helped Escobedo win even though he lost the tenth round, but the scores were unanimous @ 96-91, 94-93, & 95-91.

 

STICK A FORK IN JESUS CHAVEZ?

Michael Katsidis KO7 Jesus Chavez– Chavez (44-5, 30 KOs) took charge early and was seemingly on his way to an hard earned ten round decision. However a cut on the forehead of Chavez caused by an accidental head clash in the third round affected him. Katsidis (25-2, 21 KOs) began to impose his will against Chavez at the start of the fifth round. The constant pressure from Katsidis was too much for Chavez, who even though he may have been ahead on the scorecards, quit on his stool before the eighth!
