PACMAN BEATS COTTO TO & FRO!

Las Vegas, NVManny Pacquiao, 144, General Santos City, Philipines TKO 12 Miguel Cotto, 145, Caguas, Puerto Rico (WBO 147 lb. title) In what can be considered the biggest fight of both Miguel Cotto’s (34-2, 27 KOs) and Manny Pacquiao’s (50-3-2, 38 KOs) careers, both fighters left it all in the ring. With Pacquiao, knocking Cotto down once in the third and fourth rounds, and all the while beating Miguel to the punch consistently, this was Pacquiao demonstrating to the world why he is the best fighter today. While Cotto’s heart would have allowed him to finish, referee Kenny Bayless stopped the fight at 55 seconds into round 12.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., 160, Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico UD 10 Troy Rowland, 159, Howard City, MI. Chavez Jr., (41-0-1, 30 KOs) in classic workmanlike fashion systematically outboxed Troy Rowland, (25-3, 7 KOs) over ten repetitive (see boring) rounds. Scores were 99-91, 98-92, and 97-93.

Yuri Foreman, 154, Brooklyn, NY. UD 12 Daniel Santos, 154, Bayamon, Puerto Rico (WBA 154 lb. title) Foreman, (28-0, 8 KOs) took advantage of uninspired Santos, (32-4-1, 23 KOs) and at the same time his title. Santos and Foreman butted heads numerous times but they never a factor. Santos was surprisingly put down in the second and the twelfth by the light punching Foreman. Scores were 116-110 and 117-109 twice.

Limerick, IrelandAndy Lee, 162, Detroit, MI, UD 10 Affif Belghecham, 160.5, Rhone, France. Lee’s record climbs to 20-1, 14 KOs while Belghecham’s fell to 19-4-1, 4 KOs.

Las Vegas, NVMichel Rosales, 147, San Luis Potosí, Mexico SD 10 Mark Melligen, 146.5, Cebu, Philippines. Rosales (25-3, 21 KOs) fought hard and it paid off against the pesky Melligen (16-2, 12 KOs). Scores were 96-94 twice for Rosales and 98-92 for Melligen.

“Z” Gorres, 118.5, Cebu, Philippines UD 10 Luis Melendez, 118.5, Cartagena, Colombia. “Z” (30-2-2, 17 KOs) made it look easy until he was dropped in the 10th by Melendez, (26-4-1, 21 KOs). After surviving the round the scores read 98-90 twice and 97-91. Unfortunately, Gorres’ celebration was cut short as he collapsed soo there afterward. He seems to be on his way to a full recovery. Again, another sad reminder of the danger in boxing.

VANDA PREVAILS IN BATTLE OF MINNESOTA

Hinckley, MNMatt Vanda, St. Paul, MN. SD 10 Phil Williams, Minneapolis, MN. Vanda (42-9, 22 KOs) used his speed and experience to outpoint upstart Williams (11-2, 10 KOs) on a close split decision with scores of 96-95 and 97-94 for Vanda. The third card for Williams was 97-93. Weights were unavailable.

HATTON’S BROTHER STILL A B- PUG

Stoke, EnglandLovemore N’Dou, 145, New South Wales, Australia D 12 Matthew Hatton, 147, Lancashire, UK. Ricky’s brother Matthew’s (37-4-2, 14 KOs) attempt to escape the “club fighter” status came to an unsatisfactory draw with N’Dou (47-11-2, 31 KOs). Scores were 115-114 for Ndou, 115-114 for Hatton and 114-114.
