Saint Louis, MO – Devon Alexander, (139.5 lbs), Saint Louis, MO SD 10 Lucas Matthysse, (140), Junin, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Alexander (22-1, 13 KOs) suffers his first knockdown of his career at the hands of Matthysse (28-2, 26 KOs), and yet ekes out the decision.  Some of the fans of the local fighter booed, rightfully so.  Scores were 96-93 for Matthysse and for Alexander 96-93 and 95-94.

Tavoris Cloud, (175.25), Tallahassee, FL TKO 8 Yusaf Mack, (174.25),  New York, NY. (IBF 175 lb title) Cloud (23-0, 19 KOs) after toying with Mack (29-4-2, 17 KOs) for the first six rounds, got down to business.  Mack tasted the canvas after a powerful combination from Cloud, up at the count of eight an unresponsive Mack was unable to continue at 2:57 of the round.

Bermane Stiverne, (238.5),  Las Vegas, NV TKO 10 Ray Austin, (238), Cleveland, OH. Stiverne (21-1-1, 20 KOs) and Austin (28-6-4, 18 KOs) engaged in a lumbering heavyweight fight in which neither fighter seemed to want to be there nor take control.  Fireworks came in the tenth round when Stiverne landed and Austin tumbled.  Barely beating the count, Austin wouldn’t listen to referee Mike England’s commands thus the stoppage at :43 of the round to Austin’s disgust.

BOXING ON ESPN 2

Herrera (18-1, 7 KOs)  earns a ten round majority decision over Dallas (17-2-1, 7 KOs).  Scores were 95-95, 98-92, and 96-94.  Though Dallas came on strong late, it just wasn’t enough.

John Molina, (137.8), Covina, CA TKO 5 Robert Frankel, (137.4), Denver, CO. Molina (23-1, 19 KOs) had a rough time against unheralded Frankel (28-11-1, 5 KOs) before this bloody battle was stopped on cuts after five rounds.  Frankel though bloodied under and over his right eye, contested the stop to no avail, had Molina staggered on a few occasions.  But the flow of blood from the punch caused cuts couldn’t be stopped.
