Klitschko (41-2, 38 KOs) pummeled an outclassed Briggs (51-6-1, 45 KOs) easily over twelve dominant rounds. Klitschko landed several hard right hands from round one on. Briggs was unable to mount any offense, but displayed a world class jaw. Klitschko staggered Briggs again in the seventh and had Briggs wobbling back to his corner after being punished further in round nine. Klitschko punished Briggs even more in round ten but the bloodied Briggs somehow absorbed it until the final bell. Scores were 120-107, 120-107, 120-105.

Vazquez Jr. (20-0-1, 17 KOs) and Hernandez (28-5-1, 17 KOs) fought at a fast pace and to the surprise of the pro-Vazquez Jr. crowd were even after at the end of round four. Vazquez Jr.’s will and power began breaking down Hernandez in the fifth. Hernandez, whose face was a bloody mess from a broken nose, made his last stand in the seventh outboxing the champion and it looked as if the fight was turning. Vazquez Jr. quickly took back control from the eighth round on, rocking Hernandez with big shots. Vazquez Jr. began aiming heavy blows to Hernandez’ broken nose and finished Hernandez in the eleventh and the bout was stopped. Time was 0:50.

Bute (27-0, 22 KOs) impressed all in scoring a ninth round KO over his mandatory challenger Brinkley (35-6, 22 KOs). Bute dropped Brinkley with a vicious shot to the body in round five Brinkley barely beating the count. Bute floored Brinkley again in round eight and out for good with an uppercut in round nine. Bute’s sixth title defense ended at 2:48 of the round.

Tarver’s (28-6, 19 KOs) heavyweight debut was a methodical win over Aguilera (16-5, 11 KOs). The southpaw Tarver injured his left shoulder early in the fight, but he was still able to dominate the limited Aguilera. Aguilera’s tenth round was his best. Scores were 98-92 on all cards.
