OAKLAND HAS “NEW” TOWER OF POWER
Oakland, CA– Today, November 22nd, has never been a day of celebration for me, this being the day that President Kennedy was killed 46 years ago in Dallas, TX. But after watching Andre Ward totally dominate and dethrone World WBA 168 lb. champ Mikkel Kessler, November 22 now has a new ring to it! Before I go any further, let’s get a few things out of the way. To the doubters of the 25-year father of three, how can you not acknowledge his abilities after defeating Kessler, the best fighter in the division prior to last night, bar none?
‘DRE NEVER LOST A ROUND I THOUGHT
There may have been one round that was in question, but overall it was a “wax” job. Don’t get me wrong, Kessler threw and landed a punch here and there, but never once did he “buzz” Ward with a good shot. Whether he was right handed, fighting as a lefty, it didn’t matter as Andre just spanked Kessler until the fight was stopped in the 11th round by Dr. Smith Ketchum, due to Kessler being so badly busted up and bleeding. Officially, it was unanimous technical decision as the scores after ten rounds were 98-92 twice & 97-93. Ward is now 21-0, 13 KOs. Kessler drops to 42-2, 32 KOs.
KARIM DUPLICATES EARLIER WIN
San Francisco’s Karim Mayfield (11-0-1, 7 KOs) TKO 5 Francisco Santana (11-2, 5 KOs) at the 2:27 mark. A “raw” puncher, Mayfield is showing steady improvement.
SORRY ASS JOSE CELAYA
Had I been dishonest with a group of Salinas, CA investors, I could have taken them for a sack full of Benjamin Frankin’s. Instead in March 2007 I told them that Jose Celaya couldn’t lick a stamp if you wet his tongue. They didn’t listen and dropped $500,000 on the loser. Under Ward-Kessler, Celaya, once a lightweight, now a super middleweight was drubbed 40-36 across the board over four rounds. Celaya (31-6, 16 KOs) lost to Tony Hirsch, (10-3-1, 5 KOs.
