MMA “THE RAGE” IN KOREA TOO!
Los Angeles, CA- UFC Fight Night 79 at the Olympics Gymnastics Arena in Seoul, South Korea marks the return of former lightweight (155 lb.) champ Benson Henderson (22-5) will take on ascending lightweight Jorge Masvidal (29-9) in a welterweight (170) bout. There are some big question marks about how both guys will do in a bigger weight class. Both have looked decent thus far, though Masvidal has looked better. I would bet on Ben finding a way to outpoint Jorge, perhaps controversially. It wouldn’t be a Ben Henderson fight without a controversial decision.
KOREAN FAN FAVORITE BACK IN ACTION
Welterweight Dong Hyun “Stun Gun” Kim (20-3-1, 1 NC) is the owner of one of the best nicknames in combat sports. He will likely also be the owner of another W after he takes on Dominic “Sho Nuff” Waters (9-3). When it comes to nicknames, both of these guys are winners.
RETURN OF SEXYAMA & THE “NAME” GAME
Yoshihiro Akiyama (14-5, 2 NC) makes his first appearance in the octagon in 14 months when he faces unbeaten Alberto Mina (11-0) in yet another welter battle. It’s tough to say how much the 40-year-old known as Sexyama has left, but I’ll pick him by a hair. Other than these bouts, the only other really interesting aspect of this card is the fact that it will be opened by another fighter named Dong Hyun Kim (13-6-3) who campaigns at lightweight.
