VACANT LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE ON LINE
Los Angeles, CA– A new UFC light heavyweight (205 lb.) champion will be crowned on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV as Anthony “Rumble” Johnson (19-4) will take on Daniel Cormier (15-1) for the title left vacant by the stupidity of former champion Jon Jones (21-1). For those who don’t know, the UFC stripped Jon Jones of his belt after Jones hit-and-ran a pregnant woman after he smashed into her in a rental SUV. The woman ended up with a broken arm and Jones ended up charged with a Felony and title-less.
WHICH CORMIER WILL SHOW UP?
Daniel Cormier is coming off his first loss as a professional fighter. It was a fairly wide points loss to Jones that saw the former Olympian unable to out-wrestle the champion. It was a demoralizing defeat in a high profile fight that had been hyped by the media for months. There was a disdain shared for one another by the fighters.
WILL JONES LOSS AFFECT OLYMPIAN?
This animosity apparently started when Jon Jones said something to the effect of “Olympian, huh? I bet I could take you down.” Cormier, a man who has dedicated his life to wrestling, was offended at this notion. He vowed to destroy Jones. When his opportunity came, he was unable to capitalize. Jones was the first to take Cormier down as a pro, and he left Cormier crying in the post-fight press conference following the event. Cormier appeared a broken man.
WHY RUMBLE HAS EDGE GOING IN
Johnson is coming in riding a 9-fight win streak. The biggest win of his career came in his last fight, when he knocked out Alexander Gustaffson (16-3) in two minutes and fifteen seconds. Johnson was an underdog going into that fight, and shut his naysayers up. It was Johnson who left his opponent crying in the cage, as the Swede could been seen visibly weeping in the Octagon after getting demolished in front of his home crowd.
JOHNSON ON SIZZLING STREAK
Going into this bout with Cormier, Johnson’s confidence is at an all-time high, while Cormier’s is at an all-time low. Johnson will win this one going away. Cormier’s best bet is to take this one to the ground. If he trues to strike with this version of Rumble, very bad things will happen to DC. Time will tell how he can bounce back after a devastating loss.
