COMBINED AGE OF UFC MAIN EVENT IS 91 YEARS!
Las Vegas, NV– Tonight’s UFC 109 main event from the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, NV will feature a bout between the 45 year old UFC hall of famer Mark Coleman, 205 lbs., Columbus, OH and 46-year old fellow UFC hall of famer Randy Couture, 205, Corvallis, OR. Coleman (16-9, 4 KOs, 8 SUBs) enters as a heavy underdog against the fan favorite Couture (17-10, 7 KOs, 2 SUBs). I think this match basically comes down to one thing; Couture has been able to evolve his game throughout his career and Coleman hasn’t. Couture has kept up with the competition over the years while Coleman has remained somewhat one dimensional. Couture cruises to a decision or getting a late stoppage here as Coleman tends to runs out of gas.
UFC 109 UNDERCARD ONLY LOOKS FAIR!
The undercard features some intriguing match ups including Nate Marquardt, 185, Aurora, CO taking on Chael Sonnen, 185, Portland OR. Sonnen (23-10-1, 7 KOs, 3 SUBs) came in as a late replacement in his last fight against Yushin Okami (23-5, 8 KOs, 4 SUBs) and looked spectacular in gaining a decision; this despite the fact he had to cut a tremendous amount of weight at the last minute. As for Marquardt (29-8-2, 7 KOs, 15 SUBs), he is coming off his devastating KO win over previously unbeaten Demian Maia (11-1, 2 KOs, 8 SUBs). Marquardt will be too much for Sonnen and wins via submission.
SWICK NOW A LIGHTER FIGHTER!
Ever since his drop to welterweight (170) from middleweight (185), Mike Swick, 170, San Jose, CA, hasn’t looked right. He always looks drained and doesn’t seem to have the intensity of days gone by. Swick (14-3, 7 KOs, 2 SUBs) will have to find that intensity if he wants to win here as he faces the tough once beaten Brazilian Paulo Thiago, 170, Brasilia, Brazil. Thiago (12-1, 2 KOs, 7 SUBs) was outworked by Jon Fitch (21-3, 4 KOs, 5 SUBs) at UFC 100 but looks to get his second win since that loss by defeating Swick.
BIG APPLE PUGS SLUG IT OUT!
Long Island, NY’s own Matt Serra, 170, (9-6, 1 KO, 4 SUBs) will be taking on fellow New Yorker who fights out of Rochester, Frank Trigg, 170, (19-7, 8 KOs, 6 SUBs). Trigg is coming off a knockout loss at the hands of Josh Koscheck (14-4, 4 KOs, 5 SUBs) while Serra hasn’t fought since his UD loss to former welterweight kingpin Matt Hughes (43-7, 15 KOs, 18 SUBs). My guess is loser leaves town after this one! Serra by SD.
