Since his lone loss to Darnell Boone (L TKO 2), frantically passionate carnage infested menacing pug Adonis Stevenson has knocked out 9 of his last 10 opponents. Among the resume of the fallen victims he has strafed include a return knockout win over Darnell Boone (W KO 6) and more notably; stoppage wins against seasoned former champions Chad Dawson (W KO 1) and Tavoris Cloud (W TKO 7). Even more impressive; the aforementioned three beaten down pugs in Stevenson’s path of destruction have all been conquered within this year. Simply put, Stevenson busted out on the scene in emphatic fashion in 2013.
SECOND CHANCE OR NO CHANCE IN HELL?
In a closely contested failed bid at the title, Tony Bellew’s biggest claim to fame is showing that he’s got some intestinal fortitude by going 12 hard rounds against a former WBO light heavyweight belt holder and tough customer Nathan Cleverly (L MD 12). Other then that, Tony’s faired well against descent opposition (albeit mostly on his home turf in the United Kingdom) ,none the less; this guy has a solid chin and proven grit.
SIG’S PICK: Stevenson is a force to be reckoned with. However, I’m expecting a solid “over achieving underdog” type effort from Tony, but can’t see the lad (Tony) lasting more then a few frames. I got Adonis under 5 winning via a brutal KO.
CURTAIN RAISER LOOKS PROMISING
Light heavyweight knockout artists are set to collide on the under card when recently crowned WBO strap carrier Sergey Kovalev (22-0-1, 20 KOs) faces off against savage action brawler Ismayl Sillakh (21-1, 17 KOs) in a scheduled 12 rounds of thrown down for the crown.
SIG’S PICK: Don’t blink. These guys are fighting for notoriety in what has quickly become a talent rich division. The winner of this fight can get a big money fight against the ageless living legend Bernard Hopkins or the winner of Stevenson/Bellew. I’m favoring Sergey in a fiercely contested battle of attrition, but not by much.
