ESPN HAS NO SHAME FOR ONE-SIDED MAIN EVENT
New York, NY– Boxing’s busy winter schedule kicks off this weekend with two premium cable outlets offering the goods. First on tap, ESPN 2 delivers a “showcase” type (meaning the opponent has no chance) main event featuring talented upstart Juan Carlos Burgos (23-0, 16 KOs) against scrapper Juan Carlos Martinez (17-11-1, 7 KOs) in a 12 round super featherweight (130 lbs) attraction at the Laredo Civic Center in Laredo, TX, Friday at 9 PM ET.
FUTURE CHAMPS IN THE SPOTLIGHT ON ESPN?
As a five year professional, Juan Carlos Burgos, with a perfect record has impressed the “suits” at the WBC enough to have him ranked at the #2 position in the division. Juan Carlos Martinez is coming off his career-best win over then favored Jose Hernandez. Martinez, although not the heaviest handed individual on the planet, has good experience and will again look to hit the lottery against another betting favorite.
PROSPECT IN OPENING ACT
The co-featured bout will see a 6 round light middleweight (154) fight between 2008 U.S. Olympian Demetrius Andrade (8-0, 6 KOs) against “no hope” journeyman Bernardo Guereca (15-9-1, 3 KOs).
“TOP RANK LIVE” INAUGURAL CARD HAS GOOD MAIN EVENT
Armenian rising star Vanes Martirosyan (26-0, 17 KOs) squares off against former IBF champ Kassim Ouma (26-6-1, 16 KOs) of Uganda in ten round battle of light middleweights at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV on Saturday night. Check your local TV listings.
VANES LOOKS TO REIGN
In hiring master trainer Freddie Roach as his full time trainer, aspiring champion Vanes Matirosyan showed he is serious at staking a claim at a world championship. Since the acquisition of his new mentor, Vanes has looked tremendous, displaying world-class craft and a luminous assortment of devastating fight ending blows. In 2006, Ouma peaked in a decision win over top-flight light middleweight Sechew Powell. Ouma would then go on to drop a decision to Jermain Taylor, prompting Ouma on a downward spiral in losing three out of his last four bouts.
