New York, NY – Another solid weekend of “misunderstandings” are in store for us fans of the “sweet science”. First, let’s take a look at the possible fight of the weekend.
SMASHING SPRING OPENER
In his fourth title defense of his WBA super featherweight (130) crown; Cuban sensation Yuriorkis Gamboa’s (19-0, 15 KOs) “TV friendly” style will be on display against fellow action fighter Jorge Solis (40-2-2, 29 KOs) over 12 rounds or less of championship boxing at Broadwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Saturday at 9:45 PM ET on HBO.
GAMBOA HAS FLAIR FOR THE DRAMATIC
Having dismantled seven of his last ten opponents in emphatic knockout fashion, and by (often) coming off the canvas in doing so, Yuriorkis Gamboa is quickly becoming “must see TV” for fight fans. With his “hit and get hit” style and blindingly fast combinations of awful intent, Gamboa’s bouts frequently showcase wars of immense intestinal fortitude.
CHIPPIN’ AWAY
Jorge Solis is a solid scrapper who’s best known for his knockout loss to international superstar pug Manny Pacquiao (L KO 8). After his first professional loss at the hands of Pacquiao, Jorge regrouped and his recent effort of winning seven of his last eight affairs has landed him a second chance at one of the major belts.
UNDERCARD HAS A GOOD ONE ON TAP
Free swinging unbeaten featherweight (126) bangers Matt Remillard (23-0, 13 KOs) and Miguel Angel Garcia (24-0, 20 KOs) square off in a scheduled 10 round showcase bout.
ESPN GOT SOMETHING FOR YA
As per usual, the popular fight series “ESPN Friday Night Fights” kicks off the pugilistic weekend. Each installment of the decorated series offers news, analysis of upcoming bouts, interviews, celebrity guests offering insight into the world of boxing, and competitive scraps. This week; another Cuban destroyer surfaces in the main event when heavy handed light middleweight (154) Erislandy Lara (15-0, 10 KOs) meets feather fisted journeymen Carlos Molina (17-4-1, 5 KOs) at the Cosmopolitan Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, Friday at 10 PM ET on ESPN 2.
