San Jose, CA– Strikeforce comes to you live this Saturday night on Showtime! The card will feature THREE championship fights and is sure to be a card that may very well be one of the best MMA cards of the year.
MAIN EVENT ALI-FRAZIER OF FEMALE MMA
Gina Carano (7-0, 3 KOs, 1 SUB) vs. Cris Cyborg Santos (7-1, 5 KOs) Although Cyborg has no submissions to her credit, I still feel that if she doesn’t feel she can get the better of Carano on the feet, she will resort to taking her down and working for a submission. Both women are most comfortable on their feet and striking, but Santos has a lot more experience on the ground to fall back on. This should be a great fight and one you won’t want to miss. This 145 lb. event will be a five-five minute round fight as fems now go the same duration as men. Prediction: Cyborg by submission.
VACANT LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT (205) TITLE
Renato Babalu Sobral (35-8 5 KOs, 18 SUBs) vs. Gegard Mousasi (25-2-1, 14 KOs, 9 SUBs) This is another fight that shows great promise to be a memorable battle. Mousasi may be the favorite, but Sobral is an extremely live underdog. Both men are on winning streaks and this bout could go either way.
Prediction: Sobral by TKO.
INTERIM LIGHTWEIGHT (155) ON LINE
Gilbert Melendez (15-2, 9 KOs, 1 SUB) vs. Mitsuhiro Ishida (18-5-1, 3 KOs, 2 SUBs) While Melendez waits to get his rematch with lightweight champ Josh Thomson who was forced out due to injury, he will defend the interim lightweight title against Ishida. Personally I feel Melendez is highly overrated and evidence of this can be seen in his five round shut out loss to Thomson. In fact, I give Ishida a shot at beating Melendez. However, I still think Melendez will probably pull out the win, but he will be in for more than he expected. Prediction: Melendez by TKO.
Jay Hieron (17-4, 6 KOs, 5 SUBs) vs. Jesse Taylor (13-3, 4 KOs, 6 SUBs) While Nick “Da’ Blunt” Diaz was initially scheduled to face Hieron; he skipped out on two drug tests and has been scratched from the card. Taylor will take his place to battle Hieron. It will be a tall order for Taylor, The Ultimate Fighter 7 alum, and coming in on such short notice doesn’t help. Prediction: Hieron by submission.

Mike Kyle (12-6-1, 8 KOs, 2 SUBs) vs. Fabricio Werdum (11-4-1, 4 KOs, 5 SUBs)
Prediction: Werdum by TKO.
Scott Lighty (4-0, 2 KOs, 1 SUB) vs. Mike Cook (7-4, 3 KOs, 4 SUBs)
Prediction: Cook by UD.
David Douglas (4-1, 4 KOs) vs. Justin Wilcox (5-3, 1 KO)
Prediction: Douglas by TKO.
