FROM RINGSIDE ONE COULD SEE SHANE IS DONE!

Los Angeles, CA- It’s official. It appears that 39 year old  Shane Mosley’s (46-6-1, 39 KOs) days as a elite level prizefighter are over.  Last night in front of a packed crowd of Angelinos, Mosley fought to an uneventful split draw with Sergio “The Latin Snake” Mora (22-1-2, 6 KOs) at Staples Center in Los Angeles.  IMG_0925Mora, an East LA native, would have been honored just to carry Mosley’s gym bag 10 years ago when he defeated Oscar De La Hoya (39-6, 30 KOs)  in an exciting fight at the same venue.  Now a past his prime Mosley fought basically an even fight with the former Contender Season One victor with judge David Denkin, an obese 350 lb. referee who is now a horrid judge who gets gigs because of his dad, awarded a pretty fight to Mosley 116-112 or 8-4 in rounds, judge Kermit Bayless scored it 115-113 for Mora, and judge Lou Moret scoring  the bout even at 114-114.  Mosley was listless from the opening bell as was his foe Mora who did more holding than fighting.  Mosley lacks the reflexes at this stage to get off with crisp punches and combinations and is more intent on clinching.  Mora forfeited 20% of his purse to Mosley for coming in three pounds over the contracted weight of 154 pounds.

BALDOMIR ENDS UP HORIZONTAL

The real star of the evening was Mexico’s Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (34-0-1,26 KOs) who impressively stopped a supposedly iron-chinned Carlos Baldomir (45-13-6, 14 KOs) with a left hook in round six.  It was apparent from the first round on that the crowd was extremely interested in the 20 year old prospect shouting “Canelo”.  It was also apparent that the youngster had all the advantages; speed, agility, skills and power. Baldomir was game, but has been inactive, with only one bout in 2008 and one in 2009. The one punch KO was the events obvious highlight and the boxing world will be clamoring to see more of this red-headed Mexican wonder kid.

PONCE DE LEON AND ORTIZ VICTORIOUS

In a WBC featherweight (126) title eliminator Daniel Ponce De Leon (40-2, 33 KOS) spectacularly stopped Antonio Escalante (24-3, 15 KOs) in the the third round with a right hook  at 2:40 in the round.  Junior welterweight (140) contender “Vicious” Victor Ortiz (28-2-1, 22 KOs) was the more “vicious” than counterpart 32 year old veteran “Vicious” Vivian Harris (29-5-1, 19KOs) in a one sided beating.  The veteran Harris hit  the deck four times, and it appears he just doesn’t take as well as he can give anymore.  He provided little resistance to the stronger and considerably younger Ortiz who is 23.
