Las Vegas, NV-A few weeks ago, I penned a piece on Dr. FlipHomansky, the Nevada Athletic Commissioner who was up forreappointment by Governor Kenny Guinn. In the body, this writer wentto great lengths to express the importance of this MD staying on the Commission. Imade it clear that Homansky was the only boxing member. It was myopinion that if Flip wasnt reappointed by Guinn, a Fascist mentality wouldthen take over Nevada boxing in the form of Dr. Tony Alamo Jr.

FLIP GETS BOOT, BOXERS, & THE GAME LOSE
When word trickled out of Carson City, the Capitol, that Dr. Homansky, a medicalstaple of Nevada boxing since the early 1980s, would not be brought back for athird term as a commissioner, I shuddered! This was a war between oldschool Homansky, and the Fascist (if you dont know what this means, lookit up) Tony Alamo Jr., he being the son of former Mandalay Bay Resort &Casino chieftain Tony Alamo Sr. The eldest Alamo, a longtimeVegas player, actually purchased fights for the hotel. Yes, his son, TonyJr., was allowed to vote on matters involving his father, which in itself is amajor conflict of interest, one would think.
FASCISM, IT PUTS CORPORATE WORLD BEFORE PEOPLE
In the past, Ive always thought that at least one Commissioner on boardshould be able to differentiate a left hook from a fishhook. In addition toknowing boxing, he or she should knowledgeably put the sport and itsathletes interests first, and that of the corporate world/big businesssecond. Commissioners, most of whom are rich, and appointed governmenthacks, some had never seen a fight prior to their appointment.

Yes, Commissioners have cozy relationships with hotels, AKA the corporate world. AnAlamo backer is ex-Chairman Luther Mack, who walked away before a numberof conflicts of interest blew up in his face. Credit has to be given to ESPNsTeddy Atlas for exposing his taking complimentary rooms from a LasVegas hotel that is enthralled with boxing.
SAD DAY FOR FANS, FIGHTERS, & GAME TOO!
Within the past 48 hours, Dr. Margaret Goodman resigned. The MD, shewont work anymore NSAC events. Formerly, the head boxing MD in Nevada,her position is now floated from month to month. I know that thealarming number of brain bleeds in Nevada this year, this of course is inaddition to the death of Leavander Johnson, this deeply saddened her. Ina nutshell, I was told Goodman had issues with the way fighters were, and arebeing medically treated in Nevada.
NEVADA JUST WANTS TO MAKE MONEY, REGARDLESS!
Both Dr. Goodman, and Homansky, they both wanted the use of more MRIs, whichare the best way to determine neurological problems period. But Bob Arum, whois Las Vegas boxing, whether or not anybody wants to admit it, he, and others, arent keen on spending the additional monies that were needed, shouldfighters be given MRIs more often at $1,000 a pop!
FLIPS REPLACEMENT A CRONY WITH A $64,492 CHECK!
Renos multi-millionaire investment banker Theodore TJ Day, hasjust been appointed to the Nevada State Athletic Commission. With noboxing background at all, Day qualified for this position by donating $64,492to the Republican Party last year. It is thought that, Day, Alamo,along with Mack working behind the scenes, and an even more powerful sort that Iwont mention, will work to make Alamo a future politico, with the CommissionChairmans slot being first on the list.
