KOVALEV-HOPKINS COULD BE UGLY
San Francisco, CA– Although a significant number of you think Bernard Hopkins has a shot next week with Sergei Kovalev, this is the end of the road for the Philadelphian. The only question really is will Bernard “pass the torch” or “scorch the fight?” Having never been known to handle losing to white guys, remember Joe Calzaghe, this intangible could be a major factor in this WBO/IBF/WBA 175 lb. title clash.
HBO CAN PLAY “TAPS” FOR HOPKINS
On paper, let me rephrase that, in reality Bernard does not have a chance here. He is 50 years of age, regardless of how well he’s taken care of himself, he’s 50 and while I think B-Hop usually has a plan that is backed up by a tight defense of hands up, chin down, elbows in, feet in position most of the time, it isn’t enough to turn back the ferocity of the WBO champ Kovalev. What has worked in the past will not work today!
WILL BERNARD PULL THAT B-HOP CRAP?
So the question remains, will the 3-1 underdog, will he pass the torch in a professional manner? Or will this hyped up clash end up stinking the joint out as B-Hop reacts (or overeacts) and reverts to committing a foul fest. If Bernard boxes, he loses. Should he brawl, same result. Anyway this fight is played, Kovalev prevails.
