(welterweight) title then held by Wilfred Benitez, Roberto Duran, the recognized lightweight (135) champion for years vs former WBC (147) titleholder Carlos Palamino at Madison Square Garden as part of a Don King Productions card under World heavyweight champion Larry “The Easton Assassin” Holmes‘ TKO 12 over Mike “Hercules” Weaver on June 22, 1979. Palamino’s corner featured LA’s Jackie McCoy and Benny Georgino while Roberto had East Coast guys Freddie Brown and Ray Arcel.
