UFC HAD THREE CARDS IN THREE COUNTRIES IN 20 DAYS!

San Francisco, CA– The Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) has been on a worldwide tour of late seeing UFC 144 aired live from Saitama, Japan on February 25 with Ben Henderson taking Frankie Edgar’s UFC lightweight (155 lb.) belt.

FROM JAPAN TO AUSTRALIA!

Six days later, March 2, the UFC was in Sydney, Australia with a card that was live on FX Cable topped by Marvin Kampman choking out Thiago Alves. One week later, the UFC is back (March 9) in Las Vegas and live on FX Cable with the debut of The Ultimate Fighter (Season 15).

DETHRONED CHAMP TO GET REMATCH

The aforementioned Frankie Edgar, outsized and outgunned in my mind by Ben Henderson, will get a rematch with Henderson sometime this summer. Edgar, who walks around at 155 or so, is at such a size disadvantage, I ask why not drop down to 145 lbs and fight guys his size? Edgar has said he would do that, presumably if he loses again to Henderson. The problem at 145 for Edgar is champion Jose (Joe-sa) Aldo of Brazil. Although Frankie’s very competent, Aldo would have him for lunch
, thus the push for the rematch with the elongated Henderson who took a unanimous decision over Edgar a fortnight ago.

FX CABLE TV RATINGS FROM AUSTRALIA

According to my ratings expert, the phenomenal Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, (WrestlingObserver.com) the show featuring Kampman and Alves from Sydney was watched by 1.45 million homes here in the United States. Overseas ratings, especially from Brazil where the sport was born and is king, and Japan where it is the hottest thing going were not available at press time.

STRIKEFORCE CARD LAST SATURDAY AS WELL!

Seeing the UFC owns Strikeforce, who had a card March 3, I guess you can say that Zuffa Sports, which owns both the UFC and Strikeforce had four shows in 21 days! The card was topped by what appears to be the hottest (and most dangerous) female MMA fighter ever in Ronda Rousey, an Olympic Bronze Medal winner in judo. Keeping it real, this chick really can fight.

BETTER TALKER THAN RIC FLAIR & CHAEL SONNAN?

After almost breaking the arm of Miesha Tate last Saturday in Columbus, Ohio on Showtime, “Rowdy Ronda” captured the Strikeforce bantamweight (135 lbs) championship. She talks as good as professional wrestler Ric Flair, who is said to do the best “promos” ever. UFC middleweight contender Chael Sonnan also has a good rap, but I think Rousey may end up being better than both of them.

AFTER DISLOCATING TATE’S ARM, RONDA WANTS HER BOYFRIEND!

Now that sub-headline might be a little misleading as Rousey didn’t want Tate’s boyfriend in a romantic or sexual manner, she challenged Tate’s beau Bryan Caraway to a fight! This chick is no joke at 5-0 with five submissions, and still nobody has gotten out of the first round with her. Tate lasted 4:57, which is longer than all four of previous opponents combined!

MESSAGE TO UFC PRESIDENT DANA WHITE

Sans any doubt, UFC czar Dana White are you listening, Rousey is the “hottest” MMA fighter since the now-retired ex-UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar turned professional.

TUESDAY WE WILL LOOK AT THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER 15

What is so cool about FX Cable becoming the home of the longest running reality show in history, The Ultimate Fighter, is that the show will air live every two weeks. Instead of taping a bunch of shows and putting them “in the can” as they used to do on Spike TV, FX Cable and Fuel TV, which is running prior to the two hour FX Cable show, are doing the fights live! We will go over the Friday results and the fighters who were the most impressive on Tuesday night for Wednesday morning here at RingTalk.com

RADIO SHOW HAS MMA HOUR & BOXING HOUR!

We are running three hours of “Ring Talk” weekly now on the Sports Byline & American Forces Networks. On Saturday starting at 11 AM PT we air our “Ring Talk Boxing Hour.” Our March 9 show featured World 168 lb. champ Andre Ward and ex-two division champ Tony “The Tiger” Lopez.

MMA HOUR SHOULD BE CALLED “THE ZUFFA SPORTS HOUR”

At 12 PM PT, we roll out our “Ring Talk MMA Hour” where the guest was Cesar Gracie, world renowned trainer of UFC stars like Nick and Nate Diaz. I also brought you The Ultimate Fighter 15 results from Friday night, some UFC scoops and previewed the vast amount of upcoming UFC & Strikeforce shows!

SUNDAY ONE-HOUR SHOW COMBINES MMA & BOXING

On Sunday at 11 AM PT, I combine both boxing and MMA for an hour. Talking boxing was the loquacious writer and trainer Johnny Signorella. Covering the UFC/MMA half of the show was UFC light heavyweight contender Kyle Kingsbury.

ALL SHOWS AVAILABLE “DELAYED” HERE AT RINGTALK.COM

We have all the shows on this website in both Podcasts or you can listen by just hitting the black arrow in the gray box at the conclusion of an article highlighting the show. Folks, it doesn’t get much easier than that!

THE TRUTH BE TOLD!

Ring Talk Boxing & MMA” is, “Often imitated, but never duplicated.” With 41 years of writing for others to read and 27 years of radio presence just adds further credence to that!
