San Francisco, CA– When the California Athletic Commission moved in last week and imposed a temporary ban on amateur boxing in California, it was after a lengthy investigation put forth by ABC 7 television reporter Dan Noyes. Mr. Noyes’ reports have blown the lid off a smoldering scandal that has a better than 20-year lifespan. I invited the man Noyes has pointed the finger at, Sonny Marson, former Golden Glove head, to come on after Noyes but he respectively declined.
PROBING FEDS QUESTIONED BOXING OFFICIALS A few months ago, a source close and dear to me in the fight game told me that the FBI was questioning a number of amateur boxing officials in California. I then called Jerry Maxwell, former head of North California USA Boxing, and asked him what the agents who recently visited him wanted? When Jerry denied any interviews with law enforcement types, I believe he was being disingenuous to say the least for he had told my source of the meetings.
