WBO AND WBA 122LB CHAMP HAS A ROUGH NIGHT IN JAPAN

Las Vegas,NV– Junior featherweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (15-0, 10 KOs) was a huge favorite over Hisashi Amagasa (28-5-2, 19 KOs) last night at the Bodymaker Colosseum in Osaka, Japan. The Japanese challenger however didn’t appear to follow the script as he dropped the Cuban amateur star twice in round seven.

Rigondeaux did dominate the majority of the rounds over his abnormally tall 5’11 opponent. The 5’4 Cuban turned on the heat in the later rounds dropping his foe in round 10. Guillermo delivered a merciful beating in round 11.

Amagasa didn’t come out of his corner for round 12 due to grotesque swelling to the left eye and cheek bone. Rigondeaux promised the Japanese fans fireworks and thats what they got, but probably not in the manner the Cuban expected. An entertaining fight as Amagasa and Rigondeaux both took turns as the agressor in the bout. Hisashi moved down from 126lbs to challenge for the title. The Cuban called out WBC 122lb champion Leo Santa Cruz (28-0-1 16 KOs) after the fight. It is possible that they could square off on the January 17th Showtime card that features the WBC heavyweight championship between Bermane Stiverne (24-1, 21 KOs) and Deontay Wilder(32-0, 32 KOs), or the potential Maywether vs Pacquaio undercard if that fight ever materializes.
