PITBULL PULLS OUT WIN IN TOUGH FIGHT
Los Angeles, CA– At Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA in the main event of Bellator 132 featherweight (145 lbs.) champion Patricio “Pitbull” Freire (23-2) kept his Bellator belt despit a tough test from Daniel Strauss (22-6). Strauss was getting the better of Pitbull for three out of four rounds before the champ secured a rear-naked choke and finished the fight at 4:49 of Round 4. A rematch may be in order after a great display by the challenger, who out-struck Pitbull on the feet throughout the bout. Pitbull is now 2-0 versus Strauss, as he won a decision over the tough featherweight back in 2011 at Bellator 45, however, so a third fight may not be in the cards.
KARAKHANYAN WINS FEATHERWEIGHT CO-MAIN
Georgi Karakhanyan (24-4-1) needed only 1:49 to submit Bubba Jenkins (8-2) by Guillotine. With the win, Karakhanyan continues to make his case for a title shot.
ZWICKER PULLS OFF MILD LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT (205) UPSET
Virgil Zwicker (13-4-1) won a split decision after 3 more rounds with Houston Alexander (16-11-1, 2 NC). With a draw and a split decision in two fights, is there a need for a rematch? I do not think so. These fights have not been very high in entertainment value.
MENIFEE MANIAC VICTORIOUS
Fernando “The Menifee Maniac” Gonzalez (23-13) won a unanimous decision over Marius “The Whitemare” Zaromskis (28-9, 1 NC) to open the card. He also won my “Strange Nickname Award” on Friday night, which is something he should be very proud of.
