“FILIPINO FLASH” PUTS UP BELT ON NEUTRAL TURF

San Francisco, CA– There is nothing easy about 115 lb. World champ Nonito Donaire’s defense this Saturday against once-beaten Herman Marquez. Nearly starved at 115, Donaire says Marquez will be his last fight at the weight. The intent is to move to 118, before ascending to 122 lbs. where it appears Donaire thinks he can fit in after a few scraps at 118.

FIRST THINGS FIRST & THAT MEANS MARQUEZ

On paper, Herman Marquez doesn’t have even a remote chance. The once beaten (27-1, 20 KOs) Mexican has fought more stiffs than even the infamous Butterbean. He lost his last fight to Richie Mepranum, also a Filipino over ten unanimous rounds in his homeland. That being said, it looks like Donaire will punch holes in Marquez and stop him inside the route. This looks like a decent payday for Donaire set up by manager Cameron Dunkin.

BULLHEADED DARCHINYAN NIXED REMATCH

On July 7, 2007 Donaire, now 23-1, 15 KOs, then at fighting at 112 lbs. drilled the then unbeaten Vic Darchinyan in one-punch manner that would be devastating for any division, let alone flyweight. During an appearance on “Ring Talk Worldwide” this past Sunday, Donaire said he was willing to accept less money and that at the last minute, Vic pulled out.

STUBBORN AUSSIE NOT GOOD BUSINESSMAN

As rare as superfights are at 112-115, Darchinyan’s refusal to fight was followed by his being defeated by Joseph Agbeko (27-2, 22 KOs) at 118 lbs. in July 2009. Although a fight in the future with Vic is a possibility, the fight will not have the “buzz” that it could have had if egos not beaten out common sense and money!

LOOKING AT THE MANNY SITUATION

Although Donaire will not knock him, the fact that Manny Pacquiao doesn’t have Donaire fighting underneath him, you know helping out and at the same time building up another talented Filipino champion, I mean it wouldn’t cost Manny anything, except ego, and he won’t do it because of such.

TOP RANK CARD ON SHOWTIME TOPPED BY JUAN MA

Puerto Rican Juan Manuel Lopez, 26-0, 25 KOs, defends the WBO 126 lb. diadem against Filipino Bernabe Concepcion (28-3-1, 15 KOs). Targeting the enthusiastic Filipino fan base with two Pinoys on the card, this one, Conception, he has no chance whatsoever. I mean none!
