Which brings us to the current stock value of the man from General Santos City, the Philippines, Manny Pacquiao, and Las Vegan Floyd Mayweather, as their people duke it out behind closed doors for money and edges.
PAC BEATS FLOYD IN 2009 PPV COUNT
Roughly 1.25 million homes bought Pacquiao-Miguel Cotto, with both Cable & Satellite doing more than 600,000 homes each. That being said, Pac-fever seems to have caught fire here in the United States. Couple it with the Floyd Mayweather-Juan Manuel Marquez fight getting just over 1 million PPV buys, this might the first time boxing has had two different one million plus PPV productions in one season (year).
TALKS ARE CERTAINLY UGLY
Those behind the scenes discussions are going to get nasty as both Pacquiao and Mayweather feel they are entitled to a majority of the loot generated. From an objective point of view, Pacquiao deserves to call the shots here. You see, while Floyd was bull spitting everybody with his so-called retirement, which was a ruse for ducking Cotto and Antonio Margarito, the fiery Filipino has been kicking ass and taking names!
MAYWEATHER OWNS MAN WHO OWNED MANNY
From a business point of view, all indications are that Pac deserves the better cut of the pie. But when you look at the fight from a stylistic point of view, you’re left scratching your head because Mayweather schooled Juan Manual Marquez. This is the same man that took Manny to within a whisker of defeat on two occasions.
LIKE LEONARD WITH HAGLER, BUY AN EDGE
With Pacquiao the “shot caller” here, his promoter Bob Arum should negotiate an 18 square foot ring. Pac will wear the Reyes boxing gloves that are made for a puncher, while the tender handed Mayweather will wear boxing’s version of pillows. In the end, the fight will be made unless ego trumps dollars and sense, a rarity with this much involved. They should end up with the 55-45 split favoring Pacquiao. If Floyd balks and Bob Arum is a gambling man, pencil in that the winner gets the majority of the revenue split.
