“GHOST” GUERRERO” IN GREAT SPOT SATURDAY

Las Vegas, NV– You can dress it up anyway you want, but the bottom line is the pressure is on Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero Saturday night when he meets Joel Casamayor. A two division (126 & 130 lbs) champion, Guerrero is now on a mission at 135 lbs. That being said, should he at 26 not blow the aged Casamayor (39, but said to be older) out of the water, then he is not yet, or may never be ready for superstardom.

CASAMAYOR WON THAT MEDAL 18+ YEARS AGO!

This is NOT the Casamayor (37-4-1, 22 KOs) who rumbled thrice with the late Diego Corrales. Joel has fought a total of five times (41 rounds) since the last Corrales match in 2006. In this battle of southpaws, Robert will need to utilize his height advantage (almost 5′11) and throw that left cross with leverage. Seeing Joel, a 1992 Olympic champ for Cuba, is so adept at ducking and 5′6, Robert will need to use the uppercut and assorted hooks (up & down) to straighten Casamayor for the fight ending cross.

WINNING DECISION HERE WOULD BE SETBACK

Although Team Guerrero will call it a “learning” experience if the fight goes the route, bulls*it. Robert Guerrero at 27 is a professional with a 26-1-1, 18 KOs record, if he hasn’t mastered his his craft yet, going 12 with Joel Casamayor at this juncture in the Cuban exile’s boxing life would not be the exclamation point “The Ghost” needs on his professional resume right now.

IF ALL GOES WITH GOLDEN BOY PLANS

If Juan Manuel Marquez beats Juan Diaz in the televised main event and Guerrero trumps Casamayor, then the tentative plan is to match them FOR the WBO/WBC lightweight titles in either November or early 2011. For the record, Casamayor shouldn’t last nine heats if Robert can get his groove on.
