HBO WENT AFTER DARK WITH BEST PINOY FIGHTER IN WORLD
Las Vegas, NV- Nonito Donaire (118 lbs) San Leandro, CA TKO 2 Fernando Montiel (118), Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico. WBO/WBC 118 lb titles. Two division, now three division world champ Donaire (26-1, 18 KOs) scores a shockingly quick and easy stoppage of Montiel (44-3-2, 34 KOs). A left hook floored Montiel in the second stanza, who got up but was in no condition to continue. Time was 2:25. Donaire proved to some (if not all) Filipinos, that if it was skill and boxing were king, Manny Pacquiao would be boxing toast! Mike Jones (141), Philadelphia, PA UD 12 Jesus Soto Karass (141), Los Angeles, CA. The second time around Jones (24-0, 18 KOs) clearly beat Karass (24-6-3, 16 KOs). This time Jones didn’t tire and gave Karass a beating. By round three, Karass was cut over both eyes and Jones was in command. Karass showed heart, as his face a bloody mess. The scores were 115-113, 116-112, and 117-111.
