BIG FIGHT IN SERIOUS JEOPARDY
Oakland, CA– It’s been an interesting few weeks concerning the drug testing issue between Floyd Mayweather Jr. (40-0 25 KOs) and Manny Pacquiao (50-3-2 38 KOs). Although Mayweather, whose team called for the tests in the first place, is comfortable with giving random blood samples leading up to the fight, it has been made clear that Manny mysteriously wants nothing of the sorts. Although it would have been a smarter PR move for Manny to have simply agreed to take the blood tests, he decided otherwise which turned a cloud of suspicion into a storm of controversy. And let’s not forget to mention, it has created serious consequences in finalizing the fight!
PACMAN COUNTERS IN PUSSY-LIKE MANNER
Because Manny hasn’t chosen to buckle down and weather the storm (by giving blood) it appears he’s found temporary shelter in the courts. In a possible effort to save face, the Pacan has now decided that he will sue Floyd for defamation rather than find common ground on a simple negotiation for the most lucrative fight perhaps boxing has ever seen. If the fight doesn’t happen, it appears that the breaking point will in fact be the steroids/blood testing issue. The lawsuit clearly isn’t about money. Manny’s only suing him for a reported $75,000 – not including punitive damages. This amount pales in comparison to the $40 million plus Pac could make by simply giving a few blood samples.
FLOYD NOW IN “NO WIN” SITUATION?
Now that Manny has declined to agree to the initial offer of a random Olympic style testing schedule it seems as though it may come down to the essentially standard but slightly tweaked tests given by the Nevada State Commission after all. The process has already reportedly begun as they have asked for immediate urine tests from each fighter. But this move addresses nothing the original tests would as HGH is undetectable in urine and some steroids could easily be flushed from the system. Truthfully, concerning the real issue, these urine tests will be about as useful as a piece of sh*t on a stick.
“MONEY” NOW A CONFLICT OF INTEREST
While I don’t fault Mayweather and his team for asking for the test, it appears to have been a bad business move given the current status of the fight. At the very least the amount of time now needed to iron this issue out can offset the March date originally scheduled. And the consequences of this can truly thrust the match into oblivion as later dates will conflict with Manny’s political aspirations in the coming May elections in the Philippines. Who knows when or if the bout happens if it’s not on March 13? Manny is reportedly already considering retirement, it looks like Manny will go with the March date with or without Mayweather.
IN NEED OF CASH, DID “MONEY” SCREW UP?
Freddie Roach has put out a possible option to face jr. middleweight (154) Yuri Foreman (28-0 8 KOs) for an unprecedented eighth divisional title. Unfortunately it now appears Mayweather won’t get the Olympic style test he wanted either way. With that being the case, this whole thing has been a waste of time and consequently very bad business decision for “Money” Mayweather with consequences in the tens of millions.
