MONEY SAYS KIMBO GETS ONE MORE UFC SHOT

Oklahoma CityUFC president Dana White has stated that Kimbo Slice (4-2, 2 KOs, 1 SUB) is ‘probably’ out of the UFC.  I can see Dana giving him one more shot against a low ranking light heavyweight at a catch weight as he still can probably draw numbers.  Numbers equal profits and making money is what White and the UFC is all about.

SUCKER PUNCH COST DALEY CONTRACT

Paul Daley’s (23-9-2, 18 KOs, 1 SUB) loss to Josh Koscheck (15-4, 4 KOs, 5 SUBs) will be his last bout in UFC as he has been booted from the organization for his post fight punch he landed on Koscheck-one of the only strikes he landed all night.  It probably didn’t help his case that Koscheck claimed Daley also used eye gouges and was covered in grease.

PRODIGY PENN FACES EDGAR IN REMATCH

Ex-lightweight (155 lbs) UFC champ B.J. Penn (15-6-1, 6 KOs, 6 SUBs) will get a rematch with the man who dethroned him last month in Dubai at UFC 112, Frankie Edgar (12-1, 2 KOs, 3 SUBs).  The fight is currently set for UFC 118 on August 28th.

THE MONSTER OF MMA RETURNS

Brock Lesnar (4-1, 2 KOs, 1 SUB) will make his comeback from an illness that sidelined him for several months at UFC 116 on July 3rd against interim champ Shane Carwin (12-0, 7 KOs, 5 SUBs).  Light heavy (205) Forrest Griffin (17-6, 3 KOs, 7 SUBs) pulled out of his May 29th fight at UFC 114 with Antonio “Rogerio” Nogueira (18-3, 5 KOs, 6 SUBs), the twin brother of former Pride and UFC champ Antonio “Rodrigo” Nogueira (32-6-1, 2 KOs, 20 SUBs), due to a nagging shoulder injury.

FEDOR JOINS CUNG LE IN SAN JOSE

In Strikeforce news, Fedor Emelianenko (31-1, 8 KOs, 16 SUBs) will make his return from injuries and some surgery against Fabricio Werdum (13-4-1, 4 KOs, 7 SUBs) on June 26th at the HP Pavilion in San Jose.  In addition to the medical issues, Fedor’s return had been delayed due to negotiations between his team and Strikeforce management.  The fight is scheduled to air on Showtime (Strikeforce should put the Lee packed house and Fedor on CBS) and could feature a rematch between Cung Le (6-1, 6 KOs) and Scott Smith (17-6, 14 KOs, 3 SUBs) as well as a title defense by women’s champ Cyborg Santos (9-1, 7 KOs).  On May 15th, Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem (32-11, 12 KOs, 19 SUBs) will defend his title against Brett Rogers (10-1, 9 KOs, 1 SUB), it will be the first defense of the title since Overeem won it in November of 2007.  I guess if you want a title shot in Strikeforce you have to get knocked out by Fedor Emelianenko!

TNA LIMPS BACK TO THURSDAY NIGHTS

A quick note in the world of professional wrestling; TNA already had to pull the plug on their move to Monday night due to lackluster ratings.  They initially tried moving the show up an hour to get a jump on the Vince McMahon monopoly that is the WWE, but the numbers still weren’t there.  Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff will head back to Thursday night this evening at 9 PM ET on Spike TV. after being squashed in their attempt to go head to head.
