San Francisco,CA– Having recently reviewed the 2008 fight between unbeaten Miguel Cotto and Antonio “POS” Margarito, I came away with the same conclusion that I did prior to learning that Margarito’s hands may have been “loaded” with plaster of Paris blocks. The same material he was caught with after being inserted in one of his wraps minutes prior to entering the ring in January 2009 against Shane Mosley.

COTTO USED MARGO LIKE MEXICAN BONGO DRUM

If you recall, this was the real fight of the year, Margarito, a limited Mexican brawler, (you saw how limited in not being able to land anything against Manny Pacquiao) was supposed to succumb to the Puerto Rican who was the betting favorite.

MIGHT HAVE WANTED TO CHANGE CHANNEL

For the first five rounds, the fight was so one-sided in favor of Cotto, that if you had a DVR, you might have checked out what else was on. Throwing five, six, seven punch salvos, Cotto was landing with both force and will. In retrospect, Margarito deserves credit for the heart and chin to survive the onslaught,

THEN MIGUEL RAN INTO A PLASTER WALL OF SORTS

Looking at the various punch counts, round after round, they just confirmed the Puerto Rican’s dominance over Margarito. The HBO announcers, like the fans, began to sense a changing of the tide by the eighth round. Those five punch combos that Cotto was landing at will, they were now distant memories.

LIKE A HORSE COMING FROM LAST PLACE

Showing that he was obviously energized by the slowdown of Cotto, all of a sudden Margarito was beating on Miguel like a Puerto Rican conga drum. When the fight was stopped in round 11, Cotto was beyond just that of a spent fighter, he had been thoroughly beaten.

STILL THINK MARG’S HANDS WERE “LOADED”

That being said, I’m not saying that I thought Margarito’s hands were NOT loaded, I’m saying it’s Cotto’s fault for not being to keep punching after seven frames. Yeah, those loaded mitts weren’t cool, but if Cotto had been in shape to go 12 hard rounds, he would have won 12 to zip!
