Last week, Christopher Riverawas shot to death in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Having recently looked into moving to the island to be closer to Francisco Valcarcel, WBO President and a female I fancy, I was blown away by the crime, corruption and disregard for human life on the island. In 2012, Hector Camacho, ex-champ in many weight classes, was gunned down sitting in a Coke dealers car. Now Rivera is the latest boxer to die violently in the land of Boriqua.

Like some horror movie, the family had Christopher propped up in the corner of a makeshift boxing ring in a San Juan Community Center. Wearing glasses, a robe and gloves, I’ve seen boxers laid out in trunks and robe in a casket, but NEVER saw a dead fighter standing up vertically. He didn’t have a great record, but you can’t take away from Christopher going out the way he wanted, standing in a boxing ring. He was shot and killed January 24.

Reportedly, Oscar Gonzalez was “Brain Dead” when he arrived at a Mexico City hospital Saturday night, this after being knocked out in the 10th and final round. Reports from the MD’s working on him say he is “Partially Brain Dead.” Said to be breathing on his own, his wife arrived in Mexico City and stated that on Monday, they will get everybody together and discuss the fighter’s medical future.
