FLOYD PROMISED TO QUIT AFTER #49…BUT…

Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao

Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao

San Francisco, CA– If Saturday actually was to be the end of the Floyd Mayweather era, it might be worth watching and or celebrating. Fresh off a record payday and his 12-round May spanking of Manny Pacquiao, the 48-0 champion has for the longest said he was getting out after #49. That appears not to be the case as Mayweather is looking at complete “free agency” as the Showtime/CBS deal comes to an end.

MADE SHOWTIME/CBS LOTSA’ MONEY

Initially, Mayweather’s boxing might have been a “loss leader” for the Showtime PPV folks. But the money made on the Mayweather-Pacquiao mismatch was beyond profound, so they are looking at the Mayweather time with them as plus and would love to resign him. HBO PPV, they too, if Floyd is a free agent would probably be interested. And there is the possibility that Floyd going all by himself (Mayweather Promotions) with advisor Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions.

BERTO “BIGGER UNDERDOG” THAN BUSTER DOUGLAS

When this match was first announced, the Las Vegas MGM Grand, site of Floyd’s last 12 fights, put Mayweather up at 40-1 over Berto. That means, you bet $4,000 in order to win $100. In the biggest upset in the history of boxing, Mike Tyson was a 38-1 favorite of James “Buster” Douglas. Currently, the Floyd number has dropped to 30-1 and if you want to go with Berto, I’ve seen odds anywhere between 15 & 19-1.

SOME SAY “ENOUGH FLOYD” WHILE OTHERS CALL HIM GOD

Having never been able to figure out the Mayweather draw, I talk to boxing fans who don’t watch his fights LIVE on PPV and wish he would just go away. On the flip-side, Floyd fans, affectionately known as “Flomos,” they cannot wait for Saturday when the Church of Mayweather opens and millions of parishioners rush the pews for the one hour service on PPV.

GOLOVKIN MATCH “NEVER” SAYS FLOYD SR.

The only challenges for Mayweather is unbeaten middleweight (160) king Gennady Golovkin, an unbeaten monster some 13 lbs, heavier, or maybe a match with unbeaten fellow welterweights Kell Brook and Keith Thurman. Outside of this threesome, Floyd would be what he is over Berto, a monumental betting favorite. Come Friday, we’ll look at the undercard and see if there is anything “under” that might compel the “non Floyd” to shell out the PPV bucks.
