IS IT “D-DAY” OR PART OF NEGOTIATIONS?
Las Vegas, NV– In a week in which the mercury level is at or above 100 degrees fahrenheit here in this desert bastion, promoter Bob Arum has turned up the heat even further by issuing the following edict: Either Floyd Mayweather signs for a November 13 fight with Manny Pacquiao, or the superfight will not occur in this calendar year.
AFTER COSTLY CAMPAIGN, MANNY NEEDS THE BUCKS TOO!
A lot has been made of Floyd’s being in a financial pinch. But I think that noise has dissipated for the most part because Floyd made better than $15 million for a May win over Shane Mosley. But Pacquiao, after reportedly spending $6 million US on his successful recent Congressional campaign, Manny could also use the record purse this fight with Mayweather will bring in.
IS FLOYD A JERK? BUSINESSMAN? BOTH?
Is it smart for Floyd to mess with Arum like he does? I mean, the Sheik is the most powerful man in boxing, and by hook or crook, the man usually gets things his way in the end. The next 30 hours or so should be interesting as Arum has declared that come Friday at 4 PM Las Vegas time, if Floyd hasn’t signed, Mayweather-Pacquiao or Pacquiao-Mayweather, it ain’t happening in 2010.
PLENTY OF WIGGLE ROOM FOR BOB
With November 13 being four months away, there is plenty of time for posing and posturing still. My feelings is that HBO and their pressure will eventually bring both sides together and a deal will be made.
