CONGRESSMAN PACQUIAO DEFIES LAWS
San Francisco, CA– As the Manila Times reported yesterday, Manny Pacquiao might be the most celebrated person in the country, but both officials and residents of General Santos City are livid at Pacquiao for the construction of a building and tower for a local radio station he plans to establish without obtaining the necessary permits.
THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN & JUST LIKE A POLITICIAN, MANNY DOESN’T CARE!
Taking text from the Times, “General Santos City Planning and Development Officer Bernadeth Francisco said that residents opposed the installation of the radio tower fearing that it may affect their health. The building that will house Pacquiao’s Sarangani Broadcasting Inc. was constructed in a residential area in Barangay San Isidro. Francisco said that they were “surprised to discover that the building was already finished.” She blamed General Santos City engineers office for allowing the construction of the building despite the failure of Pacquiao to secure a building permit and other necessary requirements.
SOME CITY OFFICIALS RUNNING FOR COVER!
General Santos City engineer’s office chief Mark Reyes refused to give a statement or an interview when approached Monday. Francisco went on to say that Manny will need a clearance from the Air Transport Office , a permit from the Department of Transportation and Communication , and most importantly a clearance from the Department of Health. He will also need to ask Congress to grant him a franchise to operate his radio station.
WORRIED RESIDENTS ARE PISSED OFF!
Beth Ng, leader of residents who lodged complaints before the office of the city mayor, strongly opposed the construction of the building. “Ordinary people who intend to construct even a small building are strictly required by the city government to secure a building permit as well as many clearances before the construction can start. But here, it clearly showed that the building for a local radio station was finished without the owner getting a single permit and yet the city government allowed it. Why? Is it because Pacquiao is a world boxing champion and a congressman?”
EVEN THE MAYOR WAS BACKPEDALING
Mayor Darlene Magnolia Ricasa Antonino-Custodio of General Santos City said Pacquiao may be penalized if an investigation will show that the building was erected without the required permits.
PACQUIAO DOESN’T LIVE IN AREA WHERE HE IS CONGRESSMAN
After spending about $20 (US) per vote, Pacquiao was elected to Congress in the province from where his wife Jinky is from, Sarangani on the island of Mindanao. Not living in your district, province, the area from where you were elected is illegal in the United States. General Santos City is located in the province of South Cotabato. Having been in radio for 26 years, all of the stations I’ve ever worked for had towers constructed away neighborhoods and the because of the potential hazard. One might realize Pac’s realizing the potential danger of the tower seeing he didn’t build it near his house or neighborhood.
