MISMATCHES TURN OFF “REAL” FANS & CAUSE “REAL” DAMAGE!
As much as I deslike Antonio Margarito, I have to tell you that the beating referee Laurence Cole and Margo’s cornerman Robert Garcia allowed him to take from Manny Pacquiao, it was so brutal it was like they were intentionally punishing him for prior bad deeds. To me, it was the type of beating that people die from, like David Gonzalez killing the first of two fighters in the ring, Rico Velasquez in 1988. Instead of stopping the most one-sided fight I’ve ever witnessed, referee Hank Elespuru, oblivious to the presence of the Grim Reaper, let it go and Rico was dead less than a minute later.

Having watched the manner in which Margarito got licensed to fight Pacman in Texas, this after being denied licenses in California and Nevada, I was thinking billionaire Jerry Jones might see this as it was after three quarters, his Dallas Cowboy’s taking on the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders and send a note to Dickie, telling Shemp to stop the fight.

In closing, not the Texas Commission head Dick Cole, referee Laurence’s father, Laurence himself, their MD, the Margarito corner, not one of these parties could give a s*it about Margarito who had a broken orbital bone. The Dr. was stuck in a hard place. I mean does he intervene as the son of his boss is bumbling his way about the biggest fight of the year? He doesn’t if he never wants to work in Texas again. The job done by said referee, or should I say that wasn’t done, that being to protect the fighter, and his being the son of the Texas commission head, this is yet another reason there should be a Federal boxing czar.
