EXPECT RECORD SETTING AMIR KHAN FIGHT IN 2015

IBF Champ Kell Brook

IBF Champ Kell Brook

San Francisco, CA– With the advent of the Internet came the ability to watch fights in other countries LIVE, something writers of a generation ago couldn’t even imagine. You used to rely on the boxing trade paper Boxing Update Magazine in the 80s. Before Virgil Thrasher put out Boxing Update & Flash Magazines (B.U. on the 10th, Flash 20 & 30th) unless you had a boxing writer locally the only news you got was from three

month old magazines.
Having been intrigued by the way the English have kept boxing domestic while US Networks like ESPN 2 just last week went with two fighters from abroad in the televised main event. Unlike America, the UK invested in the sport nationally and with boxers like the unbeaten (32-0, 22 KOs) Kell Brook of Sheffield, among others, it has paid off!

BROOK TOOK “GREEN” PORTER TO SCHOOL

Having turned 28 in May, most pundits expected Brook to be turned out by the heavy handed ex-IBF welterweight (147 lb.) Shawn Porter (21-1-1, 15 KOs) when it was the opposite that occurred. What I saw in Brook as he’s developed in the last ten fights or so, is that like Floyd Mayweather he figures fighters out quickly.

BROOK HAS MAYWEATHER-CASTILLO LIKE FIGHT

Like Mayweather in the Jose Luis Castillo fight where people were whispering afterwards, English pundits were doing the same as Brook struggled with Carson Jones (34-8-2). In 2012, Kell got a Majority Decision 12 as one judge thought the fight with the American was even.

PUBLIC & BROOK BOTH WANTED REMATCH

In the highly anticipated return bout, Brook took control from the first bell, knocking Jones down in the second before dropping him for the ten count in the eighth. Brook continued to blossom by blowing out Ukraine’s Vyacheslav Senchenko (34-1 at time) next in four. The tuneup bout for Porter earlier this year with Alvaro Robles (17-2) resulted in the expected stoppage which came in round eight.

STYLES & SIZE CAN MAKE FIGHTS

Having expected to see Brook prevail as I wasn’t buying into the Shawn Porter hype. His big win over Paulie Malignaggi had a lot to do with the fact that Paulie is a small welter, while Porter was more of a jr. middleweight (154) cutting weight and fighting at welter (147).

KELL BROOK VS. AMIR “CHINNY” KHAN

With Brook defending the IBF laurels in December at home in Sheffield, the one guy I can guarantee that it won’t be against is Amir Khan. The former 140 lb. kingpin is now fighting at welterweight and was being mentioned as a Floyd Mayweather foe before Floyd picked the pedestrian Marcos Maidana for May and now again next month.

BROOK-KHAN COULD BE BIGGEST FIGHT EVER IN UK

Both Kell Brook and Amir Khan can “sell” a fight. And what I mean by that is that they have the ability to stand in fornt of a microphone, make sense, and rile up their perspective fan bases. Only the biggest of arenas or an outdoor soccer stadium (Wembley?) would be in play to host Kell-Khan.
