“JOANNA J” STILL CHAMPION

Joanna Brutalizing Penne To Defend Her Belt

Joanna Brutalizing Penne To Defend Her Belt

Los Angeles, CA- UFC strawweight (115) champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk (10-0) added another KO to her resume by stopping Jessica Penne (12-3) in the main event of the latest edition of UFC Fight Night, which was broadcast from O2 World in Berlin, Germany on UFC Fight Pass.  The contest was called to a close in round number 3 at 4:22.  The champ out landed Penne 126-25 in total strikes, and her face reflected that large disparity.   Jedrzejczyk, of Poland, looks like a future star in the UFC if she can keep stringing together dominant wins like this.

SIVER LOSES IN FRONT OF HOME CROWD

In the co-main, veteran featherweight (145) Dennis Siver (22-11, 1 NC) lost a UD to Japan’s Tatsuya Kawajiri (34-8-2).  Both guys are past their best, but Siver may want to think about finding another line of work.  It was his second straight loss and he has gone 1-3, 1 NC in his last 5.  Siver has always been a fun fighter to watch, but his best days are clearly behind him at this point in his career.

KIMBO KNOCKS OUT KEN SHAMROCK

After surviving an early submission attempt by 51-year-old Ken Shamrock (28-6-2), Kimbo Slice (5-2) put the old man down with one punch that left a huge gash on his left brow.  In just 2:22, Kimbo put Shamrock away in what was the first MMA fight in 5 years for either man.  The Bellator heavyweights (265) are both unlikely to really go anywhere from here, but it was a fun little side-show oddity while it lasted.  With over 2 million viewers on Spike TV, Bellator executives have to be happy with the end result.

MACHIDA PUT OUT TO PASTURE NEXT WEEK?

Yoel ROIDmero

Yoel ROIDmero?

The big fight next week is a middleweight (185) battle between former light heavyweight (205) champ Lyoto Machida (22-6) and Cuban Olympian Yoel Romero (9-1).  Machida really looked awful back in April when was was destroyed by Luke Rockhold (14-2), and I think this will be too quick of a turnaround against such a game opponent.

MACHIDA FANS WILL NOT WANT TO WATCH

I see Romero stopping Machida and leaving the Brazilian fan favorite seriously contemplating hanging up the gloves.  In his prime, Machida would have a much better shot at defeating the Cuban.  Though Machida is a year younger at 37, Romero has less wear and tear on his body.  Fans should tune in to see a very good matchup on Saturday night.
