CHAVEZ JR. WINS BUT WAS HE ON DRUGS?

San Antonio, TXJulio Cesar Chavez Jr., (159.5 lbs), Culiacan, Mexico UD 12 Marco Antonio Rubio, (159), Torreon, Mexico. WBC 160 lb title) If the rumors of Chavez Jr.’s (45-0-1, 31 KOs) weight issues would lead to his demise were true, no one told him. Limited Rubio (53-6-1, 46 KOs) was thought to be his stiffest test to date, yet he was outworked easily by the winner who not only weighed 21 lbs. over the 160 lb. weight limit, Chavez skipped out on his post fight Drug test. Final tally was 118-110, 116-112 and 115-113. The manner in which Chavez was annointed champion over real titleholder Sergio Martinez, received a seven month suspension for drug use a couple of years ago, Chavez and the WBC just further tarnsish the game of boxing. This is a classic example of why, “Boxing is the red light district of the sporting world.”

DONAIRE DROPS OUT OF TOP TEN ‘POUND FOR POUND’ LIST?

Nonito Donaire, (121.5), San Leandro, CA SD 12 Wilfredo Vazquez Jr., (122), Bayamon, Puerto Rico. (vacant WBO 122 lb title) Donaire (28-1, 18 KOs) hurt Vazquez Jr. (21-2-1, 18 KOs) in round three before scoring a flash knockdown in round nine.  Vazquez Jr. had his moments in the middle rounds but virtually gave away the first four. The inexplicable card for Vazquez Jr. winning 115-112 was attrocious, thankfully the other two cards read 117-110 for Donaire. Nonito is in the minds of pundits just not big enough or strong enough to fight at 122, this after being the true World champ at 112, 115 & 118 lbs.

DONAIRE A FLOP FOR SECOND TIME IN ROW!

This is his second sub-par performance in a row (Omar Narvaez UD 12) and some think that not only has Nonito peaked, but he is too small from a “body mass” perspective for super bantamweight. Add the fact that he said he will NOT fight two-time Olympic champ & WBA champ 122 lb. champ Guillermo Rigondeaux (9-0, 7 KOs) makes some question his intestinal fortitude (meaning possible lack of balls).

WORLD CRUISERWEIGHT TITLEHOLDER DETERMINED IN FRANKFURT

Frankfurt, GermanyYoan Hernandez, (198.4), Halle an der Saale, Germany UD 12 Steve Cunningham, (197.5), Philadelphia, PA
(World & IBF 200 lb title) After a previous fight ended prematurely do to a cut, Hernandez (26-1, 13 KOs) definitively beats Cunningham (24-4, 12 KOs) in the mandated rematch. Though Cunningham had his moments in the middle rounds, it wasn’t nearly enough to overcome the two knockdowns he suffered in round four and the staggering he did in the final stanza. Scores were 115-111 and 116-110 twice.

ESPN 2 SHOW EMANATED FROM “SIN CITY”

Las Vegas, NVIsaac Chilemba, (174.5), Johannesburg, South Africa UD 10 Edison Miranda, (174), Carolina, Puerto Rico. The limited Chilemba (18-1-1, 9 KOs) showed he needs more work while prevailing against ex-contender and Colombian national Miranda (35-6, 30 KOs).  The bloodied Miranda lost by scores of 97-91 and 96-92 twice. A good action fight not indicative of the scorecards.

CUBAN PRODUCT KEEPS HIS “0″

Rances Barthelemy, (130), Miami, FL UD 8 Hylon Williams, (130), Las Vegas, NV. Barthelemy (15-0, 11 KOs) a stand out Cuban amateur easily outfoxed and outboxed the feather fisted Williams (15-1, 3 KOs). Scores on two cards were 79-73 and 80-72.
