HOLYFIELD WAS ROBBED IN ZURICH
Tulsa, OK– For one reason or another curiosity got the best of me and I wasted $25 on the absurd PPV card featuring WBA champ Nikolay Valuev vs. Evander Holyfield. After Valuev did nothing but sleepwalk through 12 rounds of the worst fight I have ever seen in any weight class; Holyfield seemed to do enough, which was also almost nothing, to easily win a decision.
WORK OF THE CRIMINAL OR INEPT?
Somehow, someway the fight was scored for Valuev as judge Pierluigi Poppi scored the bout 116-112 (8-4 in rounds); his cohort Mikael Hook scored it 115-114 and judge Guillermo Perez Pineda having it even at 114-114 giving Valuev a Majority Decision victory.
WORST TITLE FIGHT IN HISTORY!, Not only does this fight enter the hall of shame as worst heavyweight title fight in history, but Valuev enters as worst championship performance in history, while all three judges enter the Wall of Shame as worst scoring in a championship bout. This scoring made the Joel Casamayor-Jose Santa Cruz (November 2007) decision seem fair in comparison. The judges for this fight should be dismissed of their positions as boxing officials. Valuev should be ashamed and embarrassed by a virtual no-show performance.
WILL EVANDER GET FALSE HOPE?
Not only does this kind of card bring more shame to a perceived corrupt sport, it may have even worse consequences by giving Holyfield, now age 46 with a record of 42-10-2 a false belief of ability and cause him to continue to fight. Not to mention due to his name the availability of opponents who would be willing to fight him. Hopefully, most fans didnt make the decision to shell out money for this absurd sparring session as I did, but at the same time, I hope they will hear of the injustice that was done in Zurich, Switzerland this past Saturday.
