UFC 152 SATURDAY MAIN EVENT IS QUITE REVEALING

Jpn Jones Knees Foe

Sacramento, CA– This is the fight mixed martial arts fans around the world have been holding their breath for. Jon Jones, the UFC light heavyweight (205 lb) champion, is stepping up to risk his essentially unblemished record against 35 year old 185-pounder (middleweight) Vitor Belfort. Boasting brutal knockout power, Belfort will be coming into the cage as a real threat to Jones’ status as light heavyweight champion. All of the above is the bull s*it UFC President Dana White will attempt to sell this massive mismatch to the public.

FIRST UFC PPV IN SIX WEEKS!

Still, this is a marketable fight if the promotion is executed properly. With fight preview trailers featuring the ancient footage from Belfort’s Pride Fighting Championships prime, casual UFC fans will eagerly anticipate the Brazilian’s challenge of Jon Jones. The champion is on a real tailspin in terms of public relations, and seeing him stretched out on the canvas with Herb Dean waiving the fight off is quit appealing to UFC insiders and maybe some brass.

UFC FAN BASE WILL SCRATCH PPV BOARD HERE 300,000 TIMES

The UFC may be able to convince enough fans into buying UFC 152 to turn a nice profit, but reality will set in seconds into the first round. Jones will dominate Belfort and likely end his night early. Vitor does not have an answer for Jon’s wrestling, and I do not see him being able to get inside of Jones’ reach enough to fully utilize his boxing ability.

VITOR FIGHTS WELL STANDING UP!

Belfort has the power advantage and is the better boxer of the two. Unfortunately for him, Jones is far better on the ground, is the naturally heavier man, has a ten inch reach advantage, is faster, has better overall striking, and is ten years younger. Jones has lost a round here and there in his MMA career, and Belfort’s only hope is a knockout finish.

NEEDS TO DO BETTER THAN MACHIDA & HE LOST TO JONES!

Vitor Belfort Hopes For Better Ending Saturday

I would advise Vitor Belfort to employ a similar strategy to the one used by Lyoto Machida in his fight against Jones. Set up big punches with leg kicks to keep Jones from being as mobile as he normally is. Use your boxing to counter Jon’s aggression and make him pay. Keep the fight standing as long as you possibly can, which may prove impossible. Jones will undoubtedly be looking for the takedown, as few are brave enough to simply box Belfort.

JON JONES NEEDS TO FIRE ADVISORS!

A fighter as exciting to watch as Jones with the incredible talent and athleticism he possesses should never be as easy to dislike as he is. But his withdrawal from UFC 151 and refusing to face a smaller last-minute sub Chael Sonnen, after the Belfort “exhibition” Jones should either force UFC middleweight king Anderson Silva to jump up and fight him or move up to heavyweight. There is not much left to do at light heavy that he has not already done. Fights against Cain Velasquez, Junior Dos Santos, Alistair Overeem and others would be great and would easily lure in buyers.

SHOULD YOU BUY UFC 152?

No, as you will be disappointed! As amazing as he was when he first burst onto the scene in Japan over a decade ago, Vitor is well past his prime and has no business fighting at 205 pounds. Your $45 would be better spent on a couple Best of Pride Fighting DVDs. Sure, you may have to sit through some mismatches, but at least you would get to see a prime Vitor demolishing top competition. What am I trying to say? There is little, if any chance that Vitor will pull off the upset, thus I expect Jones to make quick work of yet another Pride Fighting Championships legend.
