SHO BOX CARD SEES MAYWEATHER CLIENT PREVAIL
Santa Ynez, CA – Tim Coleman, 139.75, Baltimore, MD TKO 3 Patrick Lopez, 139, Londonderry, NH. Not known for his punch, Coleman (18-1-1, 5 KOs) scored a surprisingly spectacular third round stoppage of Lopez (20-3, 12 KOs). Trained by Roger Mayweather, Coleman dropped Lopez with a big right hand at the end of round two and finished him with an uppercut in round three. Time was 2:13.
Archie Marquez, 133, Albuquerque, NM TKO 3 Juan Santiago, 133, Denver, CO. In what was a terrific fight, unbeaten Marquez (11-0, 8 KOs) scored a surprisingly easy TKO 3 over Santiago (13-5-1, 8 KOs). Marquez was deducted a point for a low blow in round two, but got it back when he floored Santiago with a brutal combo at the end of the same round. Marquez was all over Santiago at the beginning of round three and the bout was called at 0:11.
ECHOLS GOT SHODDY TREATMENT BY OFFICIAL
Mashantucket, CT– Joey Spina, 172 lbs, Providence, RI TKO 3 Antwon Echols, 169 lbs, Davenport, IA
Spina (26-1-2, 18 KOs) was a bit startled by Echols conditioning as a literal last second replacement (32-15-4, 28 KOs). Something was a brewing when Spina seemed to hit Echols after the bell to end round two and knocked Echols down, although called by referee John Calla, no point was deducted. After a few minutes of recovery, Echols continued only to be inexplicably stopped at 0:43 of the third. A distraught Echols complained to no avail.
Karen Dulin, 123 lbs, Mystic, CT UD 4 Katrina De La Cruz, 119 lbs, Los Angeles, CA. Dulin (2-6, 1 KO) and De La Cruz (0-5-1), two well matched female combatants, fought the first three rounds at a good pace, tiring in the fourth. In the end it was all Dulin with scores of 40-36 on all cards.
