FELL ASLEEP BETWEEN ROUNDS!
San Francisco, CA– While HBO’s Jim Lampley falls asleep during rounds, only to wake up and see knockdowns that don’t exist, etc., I passed out between rounds and woke up with a scorecard and pen lying next to me! But with the old DVR, I was able to go back and watch the Sergio Martinez-Matthew Macklin fight’s two-knockdown prompted conclusion. Before I go any further, I know the HBO hierarchy might have an axe to grind with Martinez promoter Lou DiBella, a former HBO VP. That being said, do you think the an-air team of Lampley and crew were a little rough on Martinez last night?
I THOUGHT SERGIO WAS WELL AHEAD AT THE END!
You can credit Macklin if you want, but I thought Martinez was up after 11 rounds at 105-101, as did judges Carlos Ortiz Jr. and Don Trella 105-101. The third official scorer Julie Lederman had it even at 103-103. If you fault Martinez here, I think that you’re being a little too critical, because when Mackin “went for it,” he paid dearly. In all, I was impressed
by Martinez and the power he has in his (southpaw) left cross! Now 49-2-2, 28 KOs, will Martinez finally get Jr. Julio Cesar Chavez in the ring? Or will the son of the Mexican icon vacate his WBC title? Because I think the WBC and President Jose Sulaiman has backed himself into a corner over Martinez-Chavez. Macklin falls to 28-4, 19 KOs.
RODRIGUEZ CAN FIGHT ANDRE WARD & GET LIT UP LIKE THE WHITE HOUSE CHRISTMAS TREE!
Unbeaten Edwin Rodriguez (21-0, 14 KOs) took a step closer to a title fight with either World 168 lb. champ Andre Ward, or Canada’s IBF champ Lucien Bute. With Bute he has a small chance of winning, against Ward he has none! Face is he doesn’t hit all that hard, is a little sloppy in his delivery and his opponent Don George (22-2, 19 KOs) brought little to the dance, except for that fine ass girlfriend of his!
