FOURTH VAZQUEZ-MARQUEZ FIGHT IN WORKS
San Diego, CA The World Boxing Council (WBC) has announced its year end awards. To no ones surprise, it selected the third fight between Israel Vazquez (4304, 31KOs) and Rafael Marquez (37-5, 33 KOs) in March as its 2008 Fight of the Year.
TRILOGY ONE OF ALL TIME GREATS, Vazquez showed tremendous courage and pride by rallying from a fourth round knockdown to come back and floor Marquez in the twelfth round. The knockdown, which happened just as the fight was coming to an end, helped tilt the fight in Vazquez favor. Vazquez successfully defended his WBC super bantamweight title by split decision. They had fought twice in succession last year with Vazquez losing the first via TKO 7, and Marquez losing the second by way of TKO 6.
WOODWORTH & SYCUAN GOING PLACES
Were extremely excited that the WBC recognized Vazquez-Marquez III as its fight of the year, said Scott Woodworth, president of Sycuan Ringside Promotions, Vazquez co-promoter. Israel defined what being a champion is all about. He looked beyond great on that March night. Both fighters are now recognized as being some of the toughest warriors in all of sports. We look forward to making a fourth fight soon.
