RETURN OF CRIS SANTOS & TWO TITLE TIFFS
San Francisco, CA– Even though there were two exciting Invicta MMA titles on the line, the 105 lb. (atomweight) and the flyweight (125) championships, the focus was on Cris “Cyborg” Santos. Truly the bad girl of MMA, Santos is coming off a one-year suspension for steroids. Of course this came as no surprise as for years it was “assumed” she was on juice. A manly body, funny complexion, a non-feminine look for a married woman from Brazil, this describes Santos who was having her first fight after the California State Athletic Commission gave her the green light.
FIONA WAS THE MEAT IN AN MMA SANDWICH OF SORTS
The comeback opponent was Fiona Muxlow. Even if Fiona could fight a little, steroids or not, Santos can fight a lot as Cris ravaged Muxlow until the referee stopped the punches with a TKO 1. Time was 3:46. With Tito Ortiz calling the shots in a managerial role, the former UFC light heavyweight (205) champion inked a three fight deal with the Invicta promotion. After three expected wins, Santos would make the move over to the UFC in the hopes of getting a fight with Ronda Rousey at a “catchweight” of 140. Rousey is the UFC 135 lb. (bantamweight) and Cris campaigns at featherweight (145).
SLAM, BAM, THANK YOU MAM!
To the surprise of nobody I know, Cris Santos stopped Fiona Muxlow with a storm of punches at 3:46 of the opening round. She is now 11-1 with 1 No Contest. She says Rousey has “nobody but her,” but don’t be shocked if these plans blow up in her face. Besides, Rousey is saying 135 or the fight does not happen. In July, Invicta #6 will be headlined by Marloes Coenen-Cristiane Santos to crown the first Invicta featherweight (145) champion.
INVICTA “ATOMWEIGHT” TITLE CHANGES HANDS
Michelle Waterson (11-3) Submission 4 Jessica Penne (10-3). An armbar ended matters at 2:20 of round four in this 105 lb. throw down. In the Invicta flyweight scrap, Barb Honchak bested Vanessa Porto via UD 5. Scores were 50–45, 49–47, 48–46.
RONDA FOE GETS SPLIT DUKE
At 135, Sarah Kaufman nabbed a SD 3 over Leslie Smith. Now 18-2, Sarah lasted 54 seconds with Ronda Rousey. If they rematch, it’ll be a quicker win for the Queen of MMA.
