Unfortunately for the Colombian fighter, theres a big difference between being willing to fight, and winning a fight. Maussa, 140, didnt come to survive, as he was throwing punches, with bad intentions from the get-go! But, in the end, Hatton had his 30th KO in 40 wins, with a ninth round stoppage.
ELONGATED, WAS ALL MAUSSA BROUGHT TO DANCE, An unintentional clash of heads, just seconds into the match, sprung a leak over Hattons left optic. It didnt bother the Englishman, or his peeps, backing him to the tune of 15,000 strong, as an undaunted Hatton, stayed on the offense, hurting Maussa a number of times in round two. With Hatton prevailing round after round, Carlos Maussa, was seemingly wearing down, with each three-minute session of battle endured. The bottom line is that if you cant keep Ricky Hatton at bay, youre not going to have much, if any success against this aggressive champion.
COLOMBIAN NEEDED MORE THAN CARTEL TO WIN!
Realizing he was losing, Maussa seemed to try and assert himself in the eighth round. That didnt get him the round on my card, and it was more of the same, with Hatton dishing, and Maussa catching, until a left hook produced the bouts first and only knockdown. Referee Mickey Vann, he officially called the fight at the 1:10 mark of round nine. Maussa, who was thought to be a bowling pin type of opponent in June for Vivian Harris, simply did not have the pop, or upper body strength to handle the recognized World jr. welterweight champion.
UNLIKE OTHERS, HATTON WILLING TO FIGHT IN USA!
The knock on a lot of British pugilists, is that theyre unwilling to come to America. Hatton, is different. Im willing to come to America, and fight anybody. His detractors, they claim Hatton just isnt on the level of Floyd Mayweather. To that I say, Hatton is light years better in ability, when compared to the schleps Floyd has fought of late. That being said, Mayweather would be a 9-5 opening line favorite, if Floyd had the stones to meet Ricky Hatton.
BULLSPIT DECISION EXPOSES REFEREE/JUDGE SYSTEM!
If you see British referee, Phil Edwards, on the street anytime soon, do Frances Frederic Serrat a favor. Kick the referee, where the sun doesnt shine, and hard! British pug, and ex-cruiserweight guy Carl Thompson, he was beaten pretty convincingly over ten rounds, under Hatton-Maussa, by Serrat. But Edwards was either inept, incompetent, on the pad, (take your choice), as the ancient British rules, still allow the referee to be the lone judge, and he saw Thompson winning 98-93. Serrat, is now 23-5, (9 KOs), while Thompson, who should have felt shame in having his hand raised, improves to 34-6, (25 KOs).
BOXERS DESERVE THREE COMPETENT JURISTS!
Allowing the referee, to be the only judge, this injustice caused Frankie Randall, to unjustly lose to Edwin Rosario, back in the day. Three judges, although they can get it wrong, it is far less likely that three panelists could have produced such an egregious ending. The British, they may lay claim to fathering boxing. But, in the past 25 years, theyve done little to further the sport. Giving a sole arbitrator, in this case referee Edwards, the power to screw somebody like he did the Frenchman, this is wrong. If Phil Edwards was my father, Id ask daddy dearest, are you an incompetent boob? Or were you on the take?
