MAJOR SHAKEUP IN BOXING WORLD SHOULD EFFECT FUTURE OF SPORT
Las Vegas, NV-Schaefer made the announcement this morning, and according to ESPN.com Mayweather promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe also made a statement that Mayweathers promotional company will no longer do business with Golden Boy promotions.
Schaefer and Goldenboy Split.
Mayweather already made a recent announcement that he will be fighting in September, and it’s now official that GoldenBoy, whose president is Oscar De La Hoya, will not be involved in that promotion. It will be interesting to see what role Schaefer takes on in the boxing business moving forward. Further developments in the coming weeks in regards to Golden Boy’s relationship with influential boxing manager Al Haymon, who advises the majority of the top stock in the boxing business should have a major effect on the boxing in not just the near but long term future. This should also effect Goldenboy’s perceived incestuous relationship with Showtime and it’s Vice President Steven Espinoza. One question is legally can Richard start up another boxing entity with Haymon while still having a financial stake in Golden Boy?(Shaefer is rumored to own a piece of the private company).
