San Francisco, CA– Safe to say most people deal (cope) with death far better than myself. When my last dog Patsy died, partially due to that poison Iams dog food that I had bought thinking that it was the best canned food (at least most expensive) available threw me into such a funk that I suffered emotionally for many months.
NO MORE FAMILY STORIES OR COOKIES
The passing a fortnight ago of my aunt and second mother Julie Lutz put me in a state of depression unlike anything I can remember. While the final weeks of her life were tough to stomach, when she passed I, at first at least, felt some relief in that she wasn’t suffering anymore. A week later we had a service for her, and just before entering, it hit me real hard, yes harder than Ernie Chavez (whom Meldrick Taylor retired) did in the National Golden Gloves Regional tourney at the Showboat Casino in Las Vegas.
MY OTHER GIG I COULD DEAL WITH
Unable to do radio last Sunday despite the great love I still have for my show 29+ years after conception, the Sports Byline Network ran some old shows. The Saturday show, I just couldn’t pull it together to do the one hour Saturday edition of Ring Talk Worldwide. The network ran another tape. That and I hadn’t written anything or updated the website for almost a week. To my RingTalk.com family members who were “miffed” as to what is going on after two+ decades of Internet presence, there you have it.
LIKE JFK SAID “WE ARE ALL MORTAL”
As for dealing with death, especially the person that meant the most to me in my life at this point, my auntie Julie, they say there is a “healing process” you have to go through and that handling death, unless it’s your own, takes some time to get over. That being said, I never really got over the deaths of people that were close to me in the bicycle chain-like go around that is life.
RETURN TO SPORTS BYLINE STUDIOS YESTERDAY
My on air return yesterday for the two-hour, one boxing and one UFC hour, my guests were the victorious 140 lb. Zahir Raheem, who fought with what appears to be a broken right hand on ESPN2 Friday night, Tower Of Power leader and boxing pundit Emilio Castillo, as both appeared in the boxing hour. As for the UFC/Combat Sports hour, “Zak Attack” Young has developed into quite a radio personality with that “Tell It Like It Is” RingTalk.com attitude. I want to thank everybody that came out for the final service for Julie Lutz, especially my ex-Rosario, a wonderful woman I pick up on San Francisco street corners with that code name “V” aka Vivian Imperiale. Last but not least, my late aunt’s caretaker and my friend, the great Christine Maile. In closing, for me there just isn’t any at this time!
