TWO HOURS LATER “BIG JOHN” STILL COUNTING DUFFEE

Duffee Out Cold & Dropping

Duffee Out Cold & Dropping

San Francisco, CA– There is nothing in sports quite like two heavyweights throwing punches with bad intentions. Frank Mir and Todd Duffee were matched after the 29-year old Duffee called out the former two-time UFC heavyweight (-265 lbs.) Frank Mir.

MIR-DUFFEE NOTHING BUT “PURE” VIOLENCE

With the 37-year old Mir “rediscovering” himself with new training methods, primarily working in sparring to come out of the gate at 65 MPH. With Mir being a -$160 underdog in Vegas books, the Las Vegan duplicated his training sessions and jumped right on Duffee, landing hard left hand crosses from the start.

YOUNGER MAN WAS SIMPLY “OUT RUMBLED”

Duffee who was thought to be the better rumbler was telegraphing his punches. Time and again Duffee would launch punches that were thrown way too wide, meaning they took too long to connect. Mir’s counterpunching was the key and as Duffee swung a wide hook, Mir countered with a left hand that knocked Duffee out cold as his limp body hit the canvas as referee John McCarthy was “Johnny On The Spot” in rescuing Duffee from undue punishment. KO came at 1:13 of round one. Mir moves to 18-9, while Duffee who hadn’t lost in the UFC, declines to 9-3.

UFC CHAMP WEIDMAN TALKING “SH*T

Having long been a fan of UFC middleweight (185 lb.) champion Chris Weidman, his verbal actions this week indicate something of a change in character to an extent. Dubbed the “All American,” Weidman has seemed low low-keyed if not passive in some regards in the lead up to some fights. Not anymore!

CHRIS TRASHING ROCKHOLD MAYBE NOT SO SMART?

The champion from upstate New York has not lit the fire of fan interest he should have seeing he is the unbeaten (13-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) guy who knocked out and then broke Anderson Silva’s leg in a second fight. So I was a bit surprised to see Chris ripping his late 2015 opponent Luke Rockhold (14-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC).

WEIDMAN QUOTES ALL OVER THE PLACE

“Luke’s good looking. I’ll give him that,” Other than that, he stinks at everything….No, he’s good. He’s well-rounded. It doesn’t matter. Any of these guys at my weight I’m just running through everybody.”

JON JONES ON HIT & RUN HIATUS UNTIL?

Under usual circumstances, the District Attorney in New Mexico handling the Hit & Run prosecution of UFC light heavyweight (205) champion Jon Jones, has to “indict” a subject within 60 days of the arrest. That deadline came and went a fortnight ago and still Jones has not been indicted by a Grand Jury. The DA says they are waiting on “further evidence” and that “Jones has not escaped prosecution” and may still be charged.

MONEY CAN ALWAYS MAKE THINGS “GO AWAY”

If the reportedly pregnant victim of the May Hit & Run where Jones is said to have run a red light and struck two cars and who suffered a broken arm, reaches some sort of cash settlement with JJ and refuses to help in prosecuting Jones, the charges could conceivably be dropped. On the other hand, on the dark side Jones could get three years in the pokey.

TRAINING HARD SO SAY UFC SOURCES

Jones, said to be humbled and training hard from his problems with law enforcement, is still the best light heavyweight in the world. As for Weidman moving to 205, he’d get beat by Jones most likely.
