FLOYD SUPERB IN REMATCH

Floyd Mayweather- Manny Pacquiao Likely In 2015?

Floyd Mayweather- Manny Pacquiao Likely In 2015?

San Francisco, CA– A rematch of a May fight wasn’t worthy of regurgitating it a second time unless you had nothing to do Saturday night and felt the need to throw away some $60 clams, then you watched the Floyd Mayweather spanking of Marcos Maidana on Showtime Pay Per View. With some decent punches landing in round three, towards the end, Maidana probably enjoyed his best moment in 12 rounds.

MAYWEATHER-MAIDANA BREAKDOWN QUICKLY

Losing a point for pushing, accused of biting Mayweather’s hand, these are the tactics the Argentine was forced to adopt in order to try and defeat the guy people love to hate Floyd Mayweather. If Mayweather was serious about getting a knockout, he probably would not have ran the final round like he did. With the win in hand, Floyd knew the round was inconsequential when it came to winning the fight. Mayweather is now 47-0, 26 KOs, MM declines to 34-5, 31 KOs. Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao looks likely in 2015 should Manny beat Chris Algieri November 22.

“AVERAGE” ALFREDO ANGULO REDUCED TO THAT

Alfred Angulo was upset Saturday night by James De La Rosa in a 160 lb. bout. The former 154 lb. title challenger is finished after tasting the canvas in round two and eventually losing his third straight fight. Scores were wide at 98-90, 99-89 & 96-92. “AAA” now 23-5, 18 KOs. Upstart De La Rosa ascends to 23-3, 13 whacks.

SANTA CRUZ DISPATCHES STIFF!

When I refer to a fighter being a “stiff” it’s usually because he’s in way over his head with a fighter of greater ability as was the case when Leo Santa Cruz (28-0-1, 15 KOs) drilled hapless Manuel Roman (17-2-3, 6 KOs) with a single left hand with a KO 2. Santa Cruz needs to face WBO and linear World champ Guillermo Rigondeaux in what is the best fight at 122 right now. WBA guy Scott Quigg might be waiting in the wings for either.

BORING IBF BOUT NOT DESERVING MENTION!

Miguel Vasquez dropped the IBF 135 lb. (lightweight) title to Mickey Bey via Split Decision 12. Two judges had it 119-109 & 115-113 for Bey, the other 115-113 Vasquez.

WBA 122 GUY IN ACTION AS WELL

Manchester, UK was the site of the fourth successful WBA 122 lb. title defense by local lad and champion Scott Quigg. “QQQ” took out over matched Stephane Jamoye in three. Still undefeated, there is a Battle for Britain looming between Quigg and the sizzling Carl Frampton. “QQQ” is 29-0-2, 22 KOs, Jamoye 26-6, 16 KOs.

SANTA CRUZ & QUIGG DID THE EXPECTED

Leo Santa Cruz and Scott Quigg took out less than world class opponents quickly. Like 140 lb. World champion Danny Garcia a fortnight ago, this is the way the “upper echelon” of boxers should perform against foes of far lesser abilities.

JUAN MANUEL LOPEZ GETS “FACE PLANTED” AGAIN

Once thought to be a little Ray Leonard-type, Puerto Rico’s Juan Manuel Lopez (Juan Ma) lost Thursday night at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas. This time it was one Jesus Cuellar who knocked Juan Ma into another dimension. At 34-5, 31 KOs, a former WBO champ at 122 & 126 lbs., has lost all five by KO. Two to Orlando Salido, Mikey Garcia, Francisco Vargas and now Cuellar, Juan Ma is headed medically in the direction of fellow Puerto Rican Wilfredo Benitez, who would be best described as being mentally retarded from boxing.

HEAVYWEIGHTS VIE FOR THIRD WBA BELT

If you thought the proliferation of alphabet title belts is bad in general, take note of the WBA having three, yes three heavyweight titleholders in Wladimir Klitschko, Ruslan Chagaev and now Luis “King Kong” Ortiz (22-0, 19 KOs) who drilled the favored Lateef “Power” Kayode (20-1, 16 KOs) in the opening round Thursday as well.

LAST, BUT NOT LEAST CECILIA BRAEKHUS

No man has ever held the four major titles in boxing of the WBO, WBA, IBF & WBC. But a woman can now claim that honor as welterweight Cecilia Braekhus (26-0, 7 KOs) took the IBF trinket from Ivana Habazin (13-2, 5 KOs) with a shutout 100-90 score. Congrats to Cecilia!
