New York, NY– As the former pound for pound king, Floyd Mayweather (39-0, 25 KOs) makes his return to the ring against Juan Manuel Marquez (50-4-1, 37 KOs) on September 19th, boxing fans have something to talk about. Whether you anticipate a rusty Mayweather who will catch his first L, or for him to jump right back into form, you must acknowledge his dynamic in the sport has surely been missed by some, but not all!
WAS FLOYD THAT GOOD OR WERE FOES TAILOR MADE?
Before his retirement, he was one of the more popular names and the reputedly best skilled in the sport. But now that he’s been off for two years, there are a lot of questions that will need to be answered: Is he truly the cash cow of the sport? Does Floyd have financial trouble? Does Lil’ Floyd still have what it takes to dominate? Hopefully these questions will finally be answered on fight night that is less than two weeks away.
RIB INJURY: REAL OR BULLS*IT?
The return bout for Mayweather was supposed to take place this July, but that plan was derailed due to a reported rib injury Floyd suffered in training camp. Mayweather has been uncharacteristically elusive in detailing the injury, stating that it was a freak accident and beyond that he refuses to describe how it happened. Many skeptics believe that the injury was a farce and was only derived to save face seeing ticket sales were dismal.
IRISH PUG PUTS FLOYD OUT?
One report claimed that an Irish sparring partner (Rob Gorman) injured him. There is no word on this being confirmed. Whether or not this alleged ‘injury’ will be a factor in the fight or whether it happened at all remains to be seen.
