HEAVYWEIGHTS PETER & CHAMBERS ON TOP TONIGHT

Los Angeles, CA- Due to the popularity of the NCAA’s March Madness, boxing always takes somewhat of a hiatus. However, there are some notable fights arising in the upcoming weeks, including Friday night when ESPN’s Friday Night Fights presents a compelling heavyweight clash between once beaten Philadelphia’s “Fast Eddie” Chambers (33-1, 18 KOs), and the “Nigerian Nightmare” Samuel Peter (30-2, 23 KOs). For Peter, his last fight was a nightmare, as he offered no resistance in his one sided 9th round TKO loss to now WBC champion Vitali Klitschko (37-2, 36 KOs). In a contrast of styles Chambers is a masterful boxer against Peter who for all intensive purposes is a basic slugger.

WHO WANTS TO WIN THE MOST? The intangible in this match-up is which fighter will rise to the occasion and come in proper condition? Peter, who’s never been known to come into fights at a reasonable fighting weight, regularly hits the scales at over 250 lbs. Chambers, who possibly could get down to the cruiserweight limit of 200lbs is a small heavyweight, who routinely weighs in less than 220 pounds. Even at that weight he appears heavy when you consider his small frame. There is no doubt that Chambers is the superior boxer and defender, but his peek-a-boo style of defense may give the clubbing shots of Peter a target. Eddie must uses his great counter punching ability to make the Nigerian pay when he swings wide hope that Peter tires down the stretch. In this crossroads bout between two top heavyweights, if Chambers can deal with Peter’s power and control the pace of the fight he should be able cruise to a decision victory.

THINGS COME TO LIFE AGAIN IN APRIL

On Saturday April 4th Showtime hosts the WBO/WBC junior welterweight (140 lbs) unification bout between Tim Bradley (23-0, 11 KOs) and Kendall Holt (25-2, 13 KOs). The following Saturday on April 11th, HBO has the feared Paul “The Punisher” Williams (36-1, 27 KOs) facing former junior middleweight king Ronald “Winky” Wright (51-4-1, 25 KOs) at 154 lbs.
