ESPN2 HAD ALMOST UNKNOWN WBA CHAMP
Lemoore, CA-Beibut Shumenov, (175 lbs), Las Vegas, NV UD 12 Viacheslav Uzelkov, (172), Vinitza, Ukraine (WBA 175 lb. title) In intense heat, reported to be just below 100 degrees, both fighters displayed tremendous conditioning as they went 12 well paced rounds. Shumenov (10-1, 6 KOs) was knocked down by the untested but more experienced Uzelkov (22-1, 14 KOs) in the opening round. Shumenov, not seriously hurt, kept his focus and returned the favor in the final seconds of the third round, making Uzelkov taste the canvas. With the exception of the first round it was basically all Shumenov as he earned scores of 118-108 twice and 117-109.
Rico Ramos, (121), Pico Rivera, CA UD 8 Cuauhtemoc Vargas, (121.5), Mexico City, Distrito Federal, MX. Ramos (17-0, 9 KOs) engaged in a spirited but one sided tussle with an outclassed Vargas (15-4-1, 10 KOs). Vargas came to life and won the last round at least one card, however two jurists instead saw it a shurout at 80-72 twice, the third 79-73.
Shawn Estrada, (167.5), East Los Angeles, CA TKO 1 Eddie Hunter, (167), Kent, WA. Estrada (7-0, 7 KOs) provided the fireworks tonight as he dropped Hunter (3-4-1, 1 KO) seconds into the fight. Hunter got up only to be stopped after 53 seconds.
