LARA GETS “NO RESPECT” FROM ESTABLISHMENT
San Francisco, CA– If you follow boxing closely, you know that there are a number of Cuban fighters who go largely ignored. In case you missed it, I wrote a story last week you can click here (Cuban Fighters Are Today’s Slaves) Those not immersed fully in boxing, might have thought it was just Pedro Fernandez writing another story with a sensational headline, when that wasn’t the case then, nor is it today in another story you can click on (Paul Williams Paralyzed In Motorcycle Wreck). Erislandy Lara beat the s*it out of Paul Williams last year. The decision was so appalling that the New Jersey Athletic Control Board suspended all three judges who have not worked a fight card in the state or anywhere else since giving Williams the undeserved win over the Cuban defector Lara.
SOME MAY THINK MY TIMING IS BAD!
The tragic news that I published earlier here today at RingTalk.com, that jr. middleweight (154 lbs) contender and two-time WBO welterweight (147) titleholder Paul William’s boxing career is over after a motorcycle accident has left him paralyzed. That being said, the September showdown between WBC 154 lb. guy Saul Alvarez and Williams is now burnt toast as Williams will be fortunate if he can use his limbs, let alone ever walk again.
LIFE AND BOXING GO ON, WILL CUBAN SLAVERY AS WELL?
Although Lara and Alvarez are both promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, they went outside of GBP to sign Williams to fight the unbeaten Alvarez. If I were Lara, I’d be pissed to the extent if Oscar De La Hoya were not writing me huge six-figure checks to be mute and not talk about the undeserving Williams getting a shot at Alvarez, currently Mexico’s hottest fighter, I’d either sue GBP or work to get out of my contract all together via litigation. Cuban fighters like Guillermo Rigondeaux, even Yuri Gamboa, who his promoter Top Rank wanted him to move up “two” weight divisions and face a guy that hasn’t made lightweight (135) in two straight fights. So, essentially, Top Rank was asking Yuri to move up three-divisions and fight “house” fighter Brandon Rios, who was given a decision as putrid as the Lara-Williams fight of 2011 over Richard Abril last month.
CUBAN FIGHTERS NEED A “HIGH PROFILE” ATTORNEY NOW!
Having been forced to ride in the back of the boxing bus long enough, Cuban fighters like Lara, Guillermo Rigondeaux, Yuri Gamboa, and others need a legal mouthpiece t speak up for them. Having been denied what we Americans think are the basics, food, drink, a nice place to live, these promoters, specifically Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions, have thrown these guys three-square meals and a non-tin roof over their heads and they figure, “what the hell I’m doing better than I was in Cuba.” But they are not doing as well as there talent warrants, thus they are being promotionally and financially abused.
IF NO ALVAREZ FIGHT FOR LARA, IT’S TIME TO SUE!
Enough of the BS here, if Golden Boy Promotions puts somebody other than Erislandy Lara against Saul Alvarez and doesn’t give him at least $500,000 for step aside, then it would be quite clear to a jury that GBP doesn’t represent the best interests of Erislandy Lara. In closing, if Lara doesn’t get at least a half million US dollars to step aside, he deserves to be fighting Saul Alvarez in September. If neither happens, Golden Boy has failed in their fiduciary duties as Lara’s promoter, thus they owe him a lot of money and free agency.
